Next years backs ?

Ok, well I'm really lost, we've just signed John Grant, and I'm not sure what's going on with Ryan Cross, but why have we bought more backs, so much for bringing up young kids, we now have:
Beau Ryan
Lote Tuqiri
Matt Utai
Tim Samona
Joel Reddy
Geoff Daniela
Mitch Brown
Blake Ayshford
Chris Lawrence
John Grant
And not sure bout Ryan Cross

But that's 10 players, not including the young kids like Jake Mallaney and the U20 fullback, but only 5 spots, What the hell? Seriously, what are we doing with them all?
Any1 wanna explain why we have 10 players and only 5 spots to fill?

Utai, Brown and Daniela have not been re-signed yet. Simona isn't ready for first grade yet anyway imo so I wouldn't rate him too great of a chance at playing next year, Nofoaluma will be ahead of him Round 1, 2012\. But yeah I think Utai, Brown and Daniela being gone explains it well enough.

Look what happened this year v Titans No 1MacKinnon ,no 2 Lote ,No 3 Lawrence ,No 7 Lui This is why you need strong back up Also keeps Top players honest as well Makes competition for positions

Brown isn't going anywhere except to Fullback next year.

How do you know this, and where does Reddy fit in?,I assumed Reddy was going to fullback untill Tedesco is pardon the pun, ready.

Grant is predominantly a winger and offers genuine speed and height, so assuming he will be fullback when he's most likely going to spend time in State Cup to find his feet is just wrong. Out of the players who may remain at the Tigers next season, Brown has the best credentials to play fullback with Reddy another possible option.

John Grant is unwanted in Rugby. To suggest he will ge a start straight away in 1st grade in the NRL when he cant even find a club that wants him in his chosen sport is drawing a long bow.

I asked the question and that was the answer…1st shot is Brown...But your right when Tedesco is ready the job is his.

That comment from Papworth sounded a bit like sour grapes to me Bug. He was quoted as saying two days earlier that he was unaware about Grant being approached by league, then two days later he's "unwanted" by union.

Isn't he the president of Eastwood?

I heard one mention of John Grant on Talkin Sport, and Brett Papworth didn't sound sour grapes. He wished him the best, said he was tall and fast and athletic (apparently was chased by Athletics Australia for the Australian Olympic team), but cautioned that it would take a lot of work to play First Grade NRL. And he said something like 'I hope he knows the work ahead of him' (which was the only dig I heard). but I didn't listen to the entire show.

Bug - by that you mean he can't find a super 15 club who wants him. Super 15 is at a pretty high level - they have 5 teams within Australia. There are 16 NRL teams.

I think any player who is big and fast and seemingly a skillful outside back should fit right into our outside backs. We do not have an established fullback and we lack pace on our wings. He was faster than Hayne and Inglis in that race and he can play footy.

To me that is really worth a shot. If it fails no problems but personally I think it is another great signing for the club and I would give him a chance straight away.

We would have been better off spending whatever money was left after Blair on a good halfback.
We already have plenty of decent outside backs.

Well why isn't Brown fullback now,and where is Reddy fitting in,Sheens the master of mystery and suspense.

The "logical" solution for most rational folk to next years fullback slot is definitely Brown(whom Sheens refuses to play in that position this year!!),or Reddy(who has played most of his NRL at centre/wing!!)…but after John Morris, who knows what Sheens thinking is..??
Grant will take most of next season to settle into NRL,& throwing him into fullback role too early wld totally crucify his career
So we have several "possibilities" ,but we dont really have a fullback for 2012
