Nick D'Arcy risks passport ban by filing for bankruptcy

I don't begrudge him holidaying in Europe.

I mean it is a last hurrah of sorts because his career as a viable commodity is over. He can still be a swimmer but the chance to have the story of redemption with Olympic success is gone and the sponsorship dollars that may have eventuated are firmly in the rear view mirror.

It is a lesson to all up and comers how very quickly it can all dissapear. I am not even talking about the incident with Cowley but the actions afterwards. IF he had come out in the media after the incident and admitted he was in the wrong, done a deal with prosecutors and paid the money that the court ordered and done all of this with humility the Australian public and sponsors would be much more forgiving.

Instead all he will ever be known for is the incident and the cowardly fashion in which he dealt with it afterwards

And is exactly the reason he should never been given the chance to represent us in the first place Smeg

I want my tax dollars spent on someone who has some sort of respect for the rules and the many thousands of dollars we spend on him

If you think I am just victimising him I feel the same way about Monk and the rower who got into strife as well

It should be classed as an honour to represent our country , not a god given right

Maybe he should take up a career as a boxer , oohh thats right you have to fight someone in the your own weight division not someone 4 inches shorter and 15 kilograms lighter

In fact I am a fan of the HECS Style system mooted for monies put into their development because really the Olympics offer very little to nothing tangible to the country and costs a shed load

I agree totally Smeg

Why the athletes and coaches couldn't travel throughout the country running clinics and raising money that way I always thought was a good idea

Also would help inspire kids who might want to be Olympians in the future to see they are no different than themselves

I found that when I met famous footballers when I was younger, I put these guys on a pedestal and when i found out the only difference between me and them was size (and our pay packets) it inspired me

From all the stories I have heard, Simon Cowley deserved his punch in the face; Nick is the ultimate DH; and we funded his latest holiday to the UK/Europe...

He will come home, lay low after filling bankruptcy and probably own the local swimming pool in 8 years and live in a penthouse overlooking the Coral Sea...

Not a bad life he has lived?!

If he had said he wouldn't listen to their directives he may have found himself getting dumped from the team
