Tonight was just there for all to see, but it has been going on for ages and you know it. Panthers game was lost directly also…as were games last year.
As was momentum all the times we went up by 4 and 4 whilst opponents went up by 6 and 6
If you are good enough then the odd goal doesn't matter. You are applying selective memory - "look at that Bulldogs and Panthers games, clear for all to see that with conversions we win".
Hmm righto, what about Rd 14 when we beat Cowboys 27-26 and Marsters kicked 5/5? What about Rd 15 when we beat Souths 14-9 and Marsters kicked 3/3? What about Rd 19 when we beat Newcastle 28-26 and Mbye kicked 4/5?
Yes goal kicking needs to improve. Marsters kicked reasonably well last year but lost his rhythm this year. Fair enough, it happens, so we replaced him a month ago and IMO Mbye has been kicking well. Momirovski and Benji are also experienced goal kickers. There's nothing farcical about it except that we lack a clinical goal kicker, and frankly they are hard to come by - we haven't had one since Hodgo or Luke Covell.
Panthers have an absolutely marvelous goal kicker and it's not making their season. Someone mentioned Harris-Tevita as a good young kicker, not helping Warriors much either. Bulldogs kicked 3/3 last night and are not going to play finals. Gordon at the Titans is a good goal kicker as well.
I'm onboard with the concept of finding a better kicker, but he also has to be a good footballer, you can't carry an Eoin Crossan.
BUT before any of that we need to play for 80 continuous minutes every week, no switch offs. We need to be competitive with the top sides, which in 2019 we absolutely have not been - an early win over Manly, a close loss to Melbourne and the rest have been hidings. In the context of failing to play finals in 2019, goal kicking is halfway down the list of priorities to fix.
