TIM MOLTZEN is likely to secure a controversial release from Wests Tigers today, four days after his signing was trumpeted by St George Illawarra - a move sparking a war of words between the 22-year-old's current club and his future one.

Moltzen's manager, Martin Tauber, will meet with Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys today over the utility back's future. He has already secured a verbal agreement from Humphreys that Moltzen will be released from the final year of his Tigers contract, enabling him to officially join the Dragons and potentially be a replacement for Darius Boyd at fullback.

Tauber spoke with Dragons chief executive Peter Doust and next year's coach Steve Price yesterday and assured them the Tigers would not stop the move. ''They're not going to stand in his way,'' Tauber said.

''There's no issue. The club [Wests Tigers] has been very good about it, and I'm meeting with the chief executive [today]. All being well, all the issues will be resolved and we'll move on with Tim. They gave us a verbal agreement.''

That verbal agreement was the catalyst for the peculiar chain of events of last Friday that have added to the strain on the Tigers, who are experiencing upheaval as a result of their decision to allow a number of players to leave the club.

Having secured a verbal agreement that Moltzen would join them, and following the Herald's revelation that they had targeted him, the Dragons publicly announced the signing on Friday.

That infuriated Humphreys, who released a statement of his own accusing the Dragons of being ''arrogant and disrespectful'' by prematurely announcing the signing on the day of the Tigers' clash with Parramatta. Moltzen's move will add to the loss of Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita to Cronulla - and the continued speculation surrounding the possibility of Penrith securing Chris Heighington and Beau Ryan - which have come with the club courting Melbourne forward Adam Blair.

The Tigers are understood to be close to finalising Blair's signature, and are also expected to sign Parramatta centre Joel Reddy this week. Club officials have maintained they have also had to contend with pouring money into re-signing a number of youngsters, including prop Aaron Woods and Matt Groat.

Meanwhile, the Dragons are expected to be boosted by the return of centre Matt Cooper for the club's clash with Cronulla on Monday night. He has been sidelined since round 12 - against the Tigers - after breaking his hand and damaging both his eye socket and cheekbone.

things i noticed:
- Joel Reddy,
- close to finalising Blair's signature,
- Woods and Groat,
- no new information other than:
''There's no issue. The club [Wests Tigers] has been very good about it, and I'm meeting with the chief executive [today]. All being well, all the issues will be resolved and we'll move on with Tim. They gave us a verbal agreement.''

Its all so friendly. How nice. So how come Humphreys is throwing around press releases? Is he now feeling the heat?

I keep reading things about clubs with new coaches - Smith, Maguire, Cleary and it aint exactly cheering me up.

Humpty's press release on friday afternoon was an embaressment. He stated that WT had not agreed to a release (which they had) and it made him look extremely unprofessional.

If he was a little boy and he had to put $1 into the lie jar everytime he told a fib we would have enough money to pay the salary cap fine.

Hence I have a new nickname for Humpty, he will hereafter be refered to as 'The Fib'. Because by geez he can tell some whoppers !!

I think this article is quite the opposite Bug… This is an article by Tauber telling everyone 'he' will sort out this mess and is virtually telling everyone that the matter wasnt finalised. It even sounds like St George hadnt had any confirmation from the WT, but only got a thumbs up from Tauber. If this is the case, they are just as un-professional.

Either way, Humpty shouldve dealt with this matter through closed doors!

I think you miss the point; that Dragons announced it just before our game that day. Poor form from the Dragons. Humphreys is also clear to say we haven't officially released Moltzen, because on paper we haven't.

If you recall something similar, when we picked up Wade McK last year we didn't name him until after we'd played the Warriors the following week, as an agreement for the transfer.

I don't think there would have been any issue if Dragons had issued their statement on Sunday or Monday.

did any one else watch one week at a time on one hd last night? theres was a guy on there forget his name now talking in regards about the tigers he said he spoke to a number of player managers yesterday and they were all telling him the tigers are clearing the decks not for josh dugan but for someone? he also said blair has been signed but just not announced.

From today Bug should be named "The [This word has been automatically removed]" because by geez he can cry like one !! lol

this is exactly why humphreys looks like an amateur the other day.

1\. they asked moltzen to have a look around and give an early release
2\. he finds another club and agrees terms
3\. the dragons announce the timing and of course the tigers will let him go
4\. humphreys makes ridiculous comments in a public forum

humphreys should have called doust to discuss the timing of the announcement but the crap about not having released him officially, etc was just silly

At the end of the day its Humpty who looks like he was having the major hissy fit….throwing names & insults at Saints in the media.
Its our club thats portrayed poorly.
Highly unprofessional.
What an amateur

It's a shame that the dragons couldn't show us the same respect that we have shown the storm and the eels

Tigersmurf, so you think that Reddy and Blair are already signed up? I want to know whether we are showing respect to Canberra or any other clubs. :stuck_out_tongue:

the fib and the fonz. lucky us! :brick:

i dont see what the big deal is about what the dragons did. wt already had a verbal agreement with moltzen about him leaving, and our players already knew moltzen was leaving, so who cares that dragons talked about it when they did

Its a matter of principal ….It was more the fact they announced it before tigers rubber stamped it not the timing. That was the way it was reported to of happen

The club didnt have a problem with letting him go thats not the point.

True but there was no need for a press release by the WT. It really really made The Fib and the WT look like amatuers.
