That photo would have been taken very close to the Astor picture theatre.
And, I had an EH Holden like the one on the LHS of the photo.
Mine was blue/green with the white roof.

Yep, thanks tiger_one. From memory it was an HT GTS Monaro, but it was only a 2-speed auto gearbox.
I bought it off a 2nd cousin, and he never bothered to tell me he had pranged it at some stage and fitted it with what appeared to be a homemade exhaust.
I was lucky I didn't get picked up by the cops for noise pollution, and I never really enjoyed driving it as the suspension was so stiff.

This is how the Australian Government did the National Service Ballots for the Vietnam War:

Numbered marbles, each representing a day of the year, were placed in a barrel. A predetermined number were then drawn individually and randomly by hand. If the number picked corresponded to the day of the year on which a person was born, they were required to present themselves for national service.

War of any sort is horrendously terrible with the no. of innocent civilians and soldiers being brutally and grotesquely killed.
And it's lunatics like Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon that send the troops out.
But add to that, conscription was a disgrace.

I must have been more trouble when I was at that age to be called up than I am now, as my truly dear Mother who was a Liberal Party voter was perfectly happy for me to be called up..."it'll make a man out of you".

Luckily for me, my birthday marble didn't come out of the barrel.
