Not really Wests Tigers related any more but..

Not really Wests Tigers related any more but Parramatta have made Jordan Rankin Captain Coach of their NSW cup team.
I am struggling to see what Jordan Rankin could teach anyone.
He tought the NRL why 16 year-olds should not be allowed to be first-graded.

Average Players make good coaches? haha
Yep . Because they had to become students of the game just to have a taste of first grade . Where as the more talented guys , could fall back on that talent

Sometimes you learn more by making mistakes than you do having a perfect run.

Also, I doubt elite players require that much coaching. I have a feeling the more average players make better coaches because they connect more with the average squad member.

Good luck to Jordan anyway

There are a few hoops to jump thru before you can get a gig as a coach so I imagine he has support.
I know great coaches in my playing days that were shite players so go figure hey 🤔👍

Apparently being able to coach is not as important as being a round peg when the team is a round hole.

Makes sense to me .
IMHO the jury is still out..
And it depends on the sport, in rugby league Gibson, Bennett, Bellamy, Ryan, Sheens support the "less talented" while Toovey, Hasler, even Cleary would support "talented" coaches group.
In soccer Cruyff, and Zidan would be on the side of "talented", and Ericson, Herrera, Busby, Fergusson, etc. in the less talented group.
In the NFL, Belichick is considered the best coach, and was in the "less talented" players group,
In basketball Auerbach, Jackson, Riley, Kerr, Tomljanovic, Popovic, Udaka were all "less talented" players, while Bird, McHale, Magic etc. did not achieve much as coaches..
So it looks like the less talented group is in the majority.🤔

The Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce two new coaching appointments.

Former NSW Cup Head Coach Ryan Carr has been elevated to assistant coach for the NRL team alongside Brad Arthur.

It follows the departure of David Kidwell to Argentine Rugby Union.

Fullback Jordan Rankin will take on the additional coaching role for NSW Cup as Captain/Coach.

In addition to Jordan, other coaches from our elite pathways will be elevated to support the NSW Cup program where required.

There’s obviously exceptions to the rule . It comes down to the individual at that point .
Like Jordan was such a perfectionist and worked so hard on his game that there’s probably no one who’s more knowledgeable . Same with Kobe . Yet both were horrendous at passing on that wisdom from all accounts . Probably because the fire to destroy everybody and everything , just doesn’t translate into something teachable .
Also to your point Jerry west was/is one of the smartest minds in the game and wherever he went post his career was gold yet he’s on the nba logo and was one of the best players of his generation . But was a student of the game . I think that’s the key being a student .
Cooper Cronk will probably be a weapon coach because of this . Well maybe , he could be like Jordan and unable to teach his wisdom .
