November 1 and out Comes the Big Cash

I think losing either would be a shame. Every team needs this type of player - honest toilers. They will never be world beaters but won't be commanding 'world beater' money either. Offer them honest coin at their worth and see what happens. The days of paying overs for honest club players should be well and truly a thing of the past for this club.

I can tell you that the club has budgeted $3 million to re-sign the fab 4 and are very confident of keeping them.

Probably about right. TT stated a few months ago that the club had put 1.5 away for Moses and Tedesco.

1.5 mil won't come close to securing both of them.

No, but they should be the two highest paid. If I were looking to secure all four for $3mil I'd try to split it:
900,000 - 1,000,000 - Teddy (which is just what we'll have to pay to secure one of the best players in the game at the moment)
675,000 - 775,000 - Moses (halves cost and he was one of the best performing in the comp at the back end of last season, but I wouldn't shell out more because he hasn't shown form over a long enough period)
575,000 - 675,000 - Woods (great player but I'd be reluctant to even spend this much on a prop - we do need to secure him though because losing Farah and Woods in successive years would hit sections of the fan base pretty hard)
450,000 - 550,000 - Brooks (probably similar to what he's on now but he's yet to show he's worth more)

I like them odds. Hopefully we can add Sue & Ava to that list.

To be honest i'm not all that worried about Sue and Ava. They make their metres and tackles but lack aggression. Sue wants to be an enforcer but he has to walk the walk. I'd hope at midway through next year they are struggling to make the side as some of our juniors have stepped up. Felise will be there and hopefully either Paseka or Tatola will be on the bench.

I could be wrong but from memory both had less than average ball control, making a good run then knocking on at the wrestle or play of the ball..

I think you are definitely miss-remembering. Ava played every game this year and according to the NRL player stats only made 3 errors in the whole season. He also ran the third most meters of anyone in the team despite only playing an average of 41 minutes per game. Not to mention that he only missed 17 tackles all season, the least out over everyone except for Siro, JAC, Littlejohn (all of whom played less than 10 games).

In my opinion loosing Ava would be a big blow to the team; he's one of our most consistent forwards.

I agree, he's a great player to have in the 17.

I stand corrected. My memory isn't as good as it used to be. i do think they are great players but for some reason i remembered them dropping balls and crucial times.

I would say (depending on how TPA's we can muster, which could shift the balance of whats under the cap):

Teddy 1 million, 4 years
Woods 800k, 3 years
Moses 700k, 3 years
Brooks 550-600k, 2 years
=3.1 million

Moylan just resigned for $700k. Is Moses worth more than him? When he's played Origin and for Australia already? Doubtful. Woods is in the elite props in the game and with the cap rising he'd go for around 800k. Brooks is more unproven so he gets less cash but a shorter contract so if he comes good he'll be in a position to negotiate a suitable upgrade without being locked into a long term deal. And it staggers our boys about as much as you can.

I think you're both right; Ava did def drop the ball once or twice at a crucial time. But I would hate to lose him, he is improving year on year. Not dramatically, but enough to show he is a keeper.

Surely they don't rate Moses and Tedesco as equally valuable.
I wouldn't be surprised if anyone is going to get that figure on his own.
Without Teddy , we are looking to remain a also ran.
Not saying we are a one man team, but we are extremely close to it.

It might not be the worse thing that all our top line players are off contract during this year as everyone else is.
Think having JT off contract will provide a bit of benchmark, NQ are losing there older players and their younger players are coming more in demand. You would think JT will sign for the highest price but won't negotiate too much as he will likely stay in North Queensland.
If he re signs for around 1mIllion that reduces the price tag of the players.
3rd party's will be our biggest hurdle, but building a winning team is more attractive for quality players than joining a winning team.
I read somewhere in one of the hush hush columns that one star player has not entered into negotiation for new contract as they want to sack their manager once their current deal is up.
I read at some stage earlier that teddy was not going to be represented by Sam Ayob anymore.
Does anyone know if that statement is possibly about Teddy or can confirm he is switching management?

Fox sports article named Joey Leilua as holding off till his contract with manager expires before signing a new contract.

Saw that,
Think it was Luciano Leilua at St George.
It was good to read though in the same article that the uncertainty around the cap increase might mean some players will be signed up for less then their market value.
Could we possibly see the Fab Four signing 1 yr extension until there was a more certainty?

I think the club would want a long term commitment. It would be nice to have one or two years where we don't have to hang on contract negotiations.
