The NRL could also look at treating all clubs equally. Both through head office and referees the bias towards the top clubs is despicable.

How are fans of the bottom clubs supposed to get excited when they repeatedly get dudded by the richer clubs? It gets boring after a while…

Look at the inequality of the judiciary, the salary cap + tpas, tv scheduling, developing juniors. If you're not rich you've got nothing to share.

Gotta agree BB, this garbage that all clubs have the same salary cap but the top clubs just manage their's better is utter BS.

I think the reason our cap is in a mess is because we are forced to pay overs or back end deals to try and stay competitive.

Until the NRL publish players salaries and compare them to their clubs salary cap it will remain unfair. I will even accept the real contract figures released without actual names if that keeps people happy. That way when I see that no Bronco, Bulldog or Roosters players earn over $300k From their club, I'll know how fair the salary cap really is.

So does that mean that every person on the planet's salaries should become public property CQ ??

Never gonna happen

Why do you always go to the extreme as your argument?
We know what a lot of professions are on now. You see salaries advertised in the newspapers. Take a look at SEEK, do a search on Salaries - there are positions vacant and advertised from $30k to over $200k.

Do I know who's on what? No, but it's not hard to tell that a receptionist at Richard Matthews Real Estate will earn around $45k. It's in black & white on Seek.

I can understand that you wouldn't want the world to know that you earn $195k so you use a second accounting book.

My salary is currently $75k. It's the lowest paid job I've had in over 30 years but I'm content at my age. It's better than most but less than others.

i dont really care what joe down the road earns.

but american sports do publicise salaries, the NRL could do the same. why not? or at the least provide more details like TPAs, total salary cap used per club etc.

As said by others, rugby league has become a TV spectator sport, the game is suited to TV, having said that the excitement of being at the ground and the crowd is still appealing to me. Nonetheless the reality of where the money is lies with fox and 9 plus the ability to subscribe at a relatively cheap price to streaming on mobile devices. It has become more comfortable and a lot cheaper and convenient for many to stay home and watch on TV. I can't see this changing any time soon and so I think it also adds to the argument of improving the quality of some of the traditional home grounds to cater for crowds between ten and twenty five thousand fans as most games attract crowds of this size. Such an approach improves the viewing for those who go to games, improves, the atmosphere at the ground and on TV. Use the larger grounds for major games that should draw larger crowds.

You could throw the gates open and let everyone in for free for most games and i don't think you'd make a massive dint in the current crowd number.

Some games are just too hard to draw a crowd due to the opposing team or location of the match.

As you said pay tv is becoming too cheap and convenient for people to head out to a match.

I think the state/fed governments or whoever is designing this grand master stadium plan had better be extra extra careful with where they throw their money around in building or refurbishing stadiums. Will this pull bigger crowds? Possibly. Seems like we're in some obsessive race to catchup to what's been done in Melbourne.

I think the NRL should give up on the idea of trying to catch up to Melbourne, they are a different breed down there

Ticket prices are high, but if you become a season member its almost half the price plus you can go to 16 games as general admission,id be lucky to go to half the games due to shift work but still works out cheaper
