It ticks me off that game days and times are only scheduled five weeks in advance. The draw was done months ago but, unlike the AFL system, we don't know prior to the beginning of the season the actual scheduling of each game.
Firstly, I understand why this is done: Channel 9 want the best games on tele for a Friday and Sunday, hence the current system. They would argue that the fact NRL out rates AFL justifies why this is done.
BUT, now to my whinge…
Example 1 - I want to fly my boys to the Gold Coast to see the Tigers play the Titans in round 6\. We will see the game, visit a mate in Brisbane and do a theme park or two. For us, it's a major holiday and the first time my kids will travel on a plane.
The trouble is, I don't know whether the Tigers will be playing on the Friday night, 5:30 Saturday, 7:30 Saturday, Sunday arvo or Monday night. I want to book my flights, accommodation, tickets and organise our theme park days but I simply can't do it yet. If I could, I would have done this way back in November (or whenever the draw is done) when plane tickets and possibly accommodation would be cheaper because I was booking so early. Instead I'm sitting around waiting for the bloody schedule to be announced and it ticks me off big time.
Example 2 - I have my boys with me on a couple of week days and alternate Friday and Saturday nights. We are all mad Tigers fans and love going to the games. Because the games are not scheduled when the actual draw is done, working out when we can and can't go to our home games is a nightmare. If I knew the schedule in advance, I could plan games around my custody dates for the whole season.
I understand that these issues may only apply to me, but it just makes me wonder whether any other fan feels the same.
Thank you for listening to my whinge. I feel much better for getting it off my chest :frowning:
