NRL expansion hopefuls to learn future by July

Am I the only one who isn't keen on the idea of a Perth team?

In terms of the televisions rights and growing the game to new areas, Perth seem's like a great fit.

**The issue I have with a team in a non rugby league land is the only way to get players is to rape and pillage the junior teams of the established clubs.** If you want an example look what the Western Force did to Queensland Reds in the rugby. They took alot of their junior players on huge money and stuffed up Queensland Rugby for years.With no junior base they are struggling now.

Melbourne they have been in the competion for 13 years and are now looking at their first Melbourne bred player coming in first grade.

If putting a team into Perth gives the television deal a large increase in funds then they should look at. However if not I think they should be looking at New Zealand(look at the amouunt of players coming from NZ) and Brisbane/Central Coast.

News limited poured huge money into Melbourne and it has taken 13 years to only scratch the surface in Melbourne. They cannot expect a Perth businessman to do the same.

I remember something last year that over 50% of Toyota cup players are Polynesian (could be wrong, I was once before). That is where we need to put another team.

This is already happening between every club. Realistically, it would mean more juniors will get a start in NRL.

Yes it is happening but do you think a Brisbane, New Zealand or Central Coast team will be as big a drain on other clubs as Perth would be? Would a second team in New Zealand taking players away from Union not be better for our code?

stuff NZ… We have done our bit to support them as a competitive nation in Rugby League.

I reckon we should kick the Warriors out now and focus on other areas within Australia!!!

They can start thier own competition...

im with Watto , we have already bent over backward to ensure the competition is full of kiwi and islander boys .
Most of the fob boys are bigger and stronger than the aussie kids until they reach the 18-20s then thye come back to the field ,but we lose way too many smaller kids because of their involvement.

If you had another team based in NZ it would only be filled up by players from Australia ( Kiwi background or not).
Let's look after Australian Rugby League first and foremost.
I wouldn't be happy trying to get an Australian franchise off the ground to find it going overseas.
IMO the Kiwis should never have been allowed in the comp in the first place.
The argument for strengthening the international base is a joke.
While we have been wasting money , teaching our opponents how to play better and sending our coaches to help other countries the AFL is trying to eat us from within- they only care about becoming the number one sport in Australia.
It's about time we took them head on!

What crap! Why have they just announced a trial game in India next year. They have Israel Falou doing promo work in Tonga, he was recruited specifically before of his heritage.The AFL is actively recruiting players from Ireland. They want to grow the game international have no fear. If they can sell the game overseas they can sell the TV rights into other countries and make more money.

The game (trial match GWS v Richmond) in India is more to make up for all the backlash Victoria faced after problems with Indian students getting bashed.
Tourism Victoria is behind it as much as the AFL.
The AFL is more interested in becoming dominant here before seriously considering serious expansion to other countries.
Sure they'll do a bit of promo work here and there.
New Zealand and PNG would be their first 2 choices …. but think about it!
How long has league been played in NZ without seriously making a dent in union?
PNG- will be like league and possibly generate the odd good player but offer no serious competition.
In the past they've tried getting off the ground in South Africa as well - sorry... same problem as NZ.
Their other problem - especially in regards to NZ and South Africa is the name - Aussie Rules! :laughing:

I cant see any justification for a team on the Central Coast. Brisbane, Perth or PNG for me

Nor the need for a team in Manly and Cronulla.
