One game down for the Round across the grades and Wests picked up a narrow one point victory over North Sydney.

This is all second hand information so I can't amass a properly worded description of the game but the result is as follows.

**Western Suburbs Magpies 29** (Josh Davis, Andrew Fifita, Ben Falcone, Rhys Pritchard, Andrew Everingham tries, Gareth Morton 4 goals, Nathan Waters field goal) def **North Sydney Bears 28** (Jarryd Hogan, Mark Talanoa, Eddie Paea, Jamie Simpson, Zeb Tawha tries, Eddie Paea 4 goals)

Personally I like the fact that Pritchard and Fifita both crossed the tryline. Nothing like the fringe boys playing well to put pressure on the top graders.

I followed the game on webcast.Western Suburbs put 3 trys on in the early part leading 18-0.Norths came back and at one time led 22-18.It seemed to be a tussle in the closing stages…....

:wahoo:

So Balmain win 31-30\. Identical games eh.

The NSWRL webcast folks said "Wests young prop Andrew Fafita played damaging and a first grade call up won't be far away".

Two very good games.

Magpies were very up and down.

Pritchard made some great runs but was a little selfish with the ball on occasion. Davis ran alot of powerful lines but honestly when Akeripa comes back I think the number 12 played a much better all around game. Wests struggled under the high ball in the second half but they did lose their fullback to injury.

As for Fafita, both of them actually, they were good but not spectacular and both had glaring moments of laziness in goal line defence that directly allowed trys in.

Balmain game was again very up and down. The Tigers were out-muscled by a very large Newtown side and the fact Schirnack didn't play through injury did not aid the cause. Taumata on the other hand did play at 5/8 and he and Lazarus were really the stars of the show. Lazarus has a superior kicking game to any of our NRL squad and Taumata is a very elusive ball runner.

In the end Poor goal kicking cost Newtown the match. But considering we had a player sent off with 34 to go for calling the reff a bad word it was an excellent performance.

Lazarus kicked the field goal and a big hit at the other end of the park with a minute or so to go sealed Newtowns fate.

It will be an interesting clash between the two clubs next week at Leichhardt

WOW that was a pretty good and memorable day! My first time at Henson Park! Both Wests and Balmain winning by 1 point! I am a bit sun burnt but it ended up raining pretty heavily during the Balmain game. I hope Geo doesn't get a cold as he got quite a bit wet hehehe. I can't stand that Newtown song! I'm looking forward to watching the Wests Magpies beat my second favorite NSW Cup team, Balmain Ryde, at Leichhardt Oval next weekend!

How did Mataka go?

Hard to tell. Seemed to make a few strong runs. Newtown is just a crap ground to watch a game properly though

It's still doin' my head in. I can't get it out of my head :frowning:

Hard to argue with any of that…

On Fafita A...he hammered the souths bears player who luckily got the ball away for the try that put them in front....He controlled the ruck and didint' miss to many..His line speed in D was good got back well..In attack he was a handful most times he touched the ball....scoring his trademark try up the guts of the bears....behind Rysko as Wests best forward IMO.....

Sheens gave Laurie a run....... if Fafita keeps playing like that put him on the bench in FG....

For BRET ...Lazarus was very good..Goes high a lot in D....the first try he set up was brilliant stuff...

Taumata is better than Lui...even given the rust.....very enthusistic pumped BRET up...must be his nature....

So do you think the grubber through the defensive line, with the regather, followed by a banana kick out to Huihahau to score a try (all in the one motion), is better than the bomb towards the posts which bounces off them and lands into a BRET's players arms to score a try which turns the game on it's head?

I think you've found our next Andrew Johns..

Yes…..And when he hit the posts with the bomb ..... I thought I was watching a superstar in the making.....but it is just State cup...

Only problem I see for him is he plays strong the same side of the field as Benji...

His kicking game in general was class....except the one bomb he put into Tempe....

Oh ...I think it was more a chip and regather than a grubber....

Why did Huihaihuhuhuhu...get sent off...cause he told the bamford on the sideline to open his EYES....?

And what makes you think he can't play both sides of the ruck that strongly?
He was just instructed to play the left…
But as you say...it is just State Cup...and he's just a kid who was playing at that level when he was 18/19 and had 2 years off with two recons and after about 5 games back. And he can STILL do stuff like this to blokes who have been playing at this level for years on end..

Wow….sarcasm Lost on you....

I've watched Lazarus as long as you have....He's better than Lui, He's better than Moltzen as a half...

Don't worry crouching his time will come....He wont let anyone down....

The Fonz said Andrew Fifita is about 4-5 weeks away if he keeps things going well.

What else did you ask Sheens Bug?
