NSW Cup Team List: Round 3 v Newcastle..

Watched the first 20 minutes. Simpkin looks good enough to me. He handles the physicality of reserve grade. His passing is good and he looks crafty out of dummy half. I imagine it is only a matter of time before he debuts. No rush. Better he continues to learn his craft and build fitness. When the time is right, Madge will bring him in.

I think there's a couple of likely contenders to lean on later in the year - Simpkin, Simpkins and Tuilagi look to be the pick of them.

Cini actually looks better than I thought he would. He looks the pick of the reserve grade outside backs and outplayed Leilua (albeit in a different position). I'd hope he's next cab off the rank for a centre spot honestly. He deserves it.

Our reserve grade forward pack are actually formidable. Tuilagi, Simpkins, Seyfarth, Rogers-Smith all look high potential to me.

Jock Madden played the best game of his career.

Jake Simpkin is 100% NRL bound.

Big note

@willow has mentioned multiple times how turnstyle cinis defence is

If he can fix that he can gun for 1st grade

He was known as a strong attacker who was weaker in defence 2-3 years ago. Mostly playing at centre at that time, where defence is more important than at wing/fullback.

Still he may have improved his reads in defence over the past 18 months while he had nothing else to do

Agree on Cini. He’s been the pick of the backs for me in the 3 games played so far. He also looked ok in the trials

Agree, he also looks a lot physically bigger and stronger than I remember. I think he could do a job on the left wing.

Laurie's pace adds a new dimension to our game in the NRL team. In NSW Cup it was noticeable Fitzgibbon's hit ups in behind the play the ball caused problems to the defence due to his pace. Gebbie will be the same. Cini is not quick although he is big and has a good step. I don't believe Cini will be quick enough for the the wing.

I would happily give Mikaele a spell in ressies to get one of these boys some time off the bench. TM has been very one dimensional this year and we desperately need some cover for 2RW.

Escellent stats even though it was against a poor team

Its funny how different people look at different things with State Cup players.

For me Cini looked great at Camden in person. Just carries himself like he is better thanmost. Its a self belief thing. he has looked good in what ive seen this season.

What im seeing is a quiet determination and a player who does the little things right. That might go unnoticed by some but not by me. Effort, intelligence, attitude and mentality are more important than pure talent.

Seyfarth is coming on. See above.

Tuki needs no explaining. The kid has it.

Simpkin is up to the hype.

Hoffman is a quiet achiever.

Taipari will jump out of the ground at some point this year.

100% Mikaele is the new plodder, are we just keeping a plodder around for old times sake.

Tuki Simpkins for Magpies yesterday:

Im inclined to let TM have a couple of more games while Madge grooms the rough edges off him....I do think he can be a damaging player under the right guidance....dont worry,if he isnt doing ok Madge doesnt mind moving them on or dropping them...

Looks like he has the physical traits but I’m yet to see him use his physicality at the right times or in the right places on the pitch. To me he looks like he is a bit lost.

Agree, he's not a plodder IMO he rips in and plays hard. Football IQ is his problem, which should improve as gets older. Stefano has overtaken him though.

Just finished watching this game. Simpkins is ready, the kid is an absolute handful, his offloads were effortless and he was making post contact meters at will. Give him 25 minutes on the left edge and tell Lucy to go all out for 55.
Aside from that, BJ can stay in ressies, his effort was below average, the youngsters were showing him how its done, same goes for packer.
Fitzgibbon needs to engage more, he needs to go looking for the ball just like Cini did.
Madden is a tough little SOB and he digs into the line like all good halfbacks, but his game lacks some polish.
Simpkin would also not look out of place in FG, he's a true hooker but his service is not as good as some make it out to be.
Tuilagi is a no frills type player, he will also crack grade at some stage and won't let anyone down.
None of the outside backs are banging the door down to FG but Cini could do a job on the wing if needed and Hoffman was comfortable without being spectacular.
