JONES NAMES U20S TEAM TO PLAY STORM
24/08/2010 2:26:29 PM

Wests Tigers Coach Grant Jones has named his team to play Melbourne Storm at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, August 29, in round 25 of the Toyota Cup competition.

The team sits in seventh place on 28 points and requires just one more win to secure a finals berth.

Prop Aaron Woods has recovered from a serious hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since round one.

The Storm beat the Wests Tigers in last year's Toyota Cup grand final in controversial circumstances.

Kick-off is 11.45am. Gates open 11.15am.

Great to see Aaron Woods back, hope he plays.

If they can get Jake back as well look out competition!!!!!!!

Haven't seen too much of the Under 20's this year so looking forward to seeing Sironen and Murdoch who seem to have big wraps on them. Anyone else I should be keeping an eye on?

Strong looking side and great to see Aaron Woods making a comeback off the bench. He'll be rusty but he looks to have grown more this year and will offer plenty of size. Mullaney at fullback is the missing ingredient, if he can make it back for the finals then the team can give it a real shake.

I think with the goal kicking of Sironen the impact of Mullaneys abscence is really cut down

Faleula Finau on the wing is one to watch, excellent acceleration and great footwork, Shaun Spence in the second row is an excellent defender and has been getting a bit more ball from the look of it over the last few weeks and is one to watch and the two props in Begovich and Roqica are both strong.

I've had a big wrap on Finau for a while. I definitely think he is close to NRL material next year. Also impressed by Roqica.

It's all starting to come together for the boys after a few near misses, this will be worth the price of admission alone as our boys seek revenge after being rorted in the Grand Final last year.
Great to see Aaron finally back, when will Jake return?.

While the kicking may be covered to some extent, I think the spark he gives to the team when he injects himself into the attack is something the side hasn't been able to cover for.

Gives that extra potency and point of attack that the side has been lacking a bit.

Murdoch needs a shoulder reconstruction at the end of the season too.

Might be a chance next week but no guarantees

Don't think so mate but much as you and I like JJ I think Bodie Clarke would look good in the centres.

Team that could knock the comp off if they play to their best.

Sorry you have missed one J.Florimo

STORM DEFEAT TIGERS 20-10 IN U20S
29/08/2010 12:29:52 PM

The Storm defeated the Tigers in the Toyota Cup by 20-10 this afternoon at Leichhardt Oval.

Wests Tigers lost second-rower Ben Murdoch-Masila with an ankle injury. Prop Aaron Woods came off the interchange bench to start.

Daniel Ahsin came onto the interchange bench.

The Storm opened the scoring in the 12th minute when winger Josh Jerome was on the end of a great cut out pass to dive over in the corner. Jerome failed to convert his own try.

Wests Tigers bombed a tryscoring opportunity in the 24th minute when second-rower Shaun Spence lost the ball just short of the line from a cut out pass by half-back Liam Ayoub. The referee awarded a penalty to the Wests Tigers after ruling Spence had the ball stripped.

Wests Tigers took advantage of the extra possession when full-back Sam Sauvao linked up with centre Tim Simona who stepped back inside to place the ball down on the line out wide.

Five-eighth Curtis Sironen failed to convert the try for a 4-4 scoreline after 27 minutes.

The Storm took an 8-4 lead when a crossfield kick by five-eighth and captain Ben Hampton saw Jerome take the ball to score in the corner. Jerome failed to convert his own try.

Curtis Sironen then got Wests Tigers on level terms when he scored near the posts. Sironen then converted his own try in the 37th minute to give Wests Tigers a 10-8 lead at half-time.

In the second half the Storm took a 12-10 lead when full-back Edward Friamausali scored out wide. Jerome converted the try for a 14-10 lead after 47 minutes.

The visitors all but put the game to bed when the Tigers were unable to take a high kick in their goal line, with Friamausali diving on the loose ball to score his second try of the match. Jerome added the extra two points.

Despite a late surge from the Tigers, the Storm held onto their ten point advantage to win the game 20-10.

The Tigers must win against the Titans in order to make the finals now. After watching today's game I'd say their season is on life support. They were pretty ordinary and lacked the big plays in attack to really worry the Storm today. Young Sirro looks alright and will only get better and Aaron Woods was pretty strong in his first game back despite copping 10 in the bin.

I'm not too optimistic about their chances at this stage though.

This team has been disappointing they had a good patch of wins earlier in the season but for some reason struggled since. Storm were about 10 competition points behind the Tigers and won, watching their reaction after the game, they couldn't believe their good fortune. Its a pity Jake wasn't playing today I'm sure he would have cleaned up some of those bombs that the storm scored from. Good luck against the Titans they will need it and will need to work hard and be a lot more committed.

yes young Sirro looks the goods and I believe he is only 17 old??

Turned 17 a couple of weeks ago. Promising junior indeed, but if the Tigers don't make the 8, they have only themselves to blame, they've let a couple of wins slip through their fingers this season.
