Observations from Yesterday's Game

Went along and watched the boys yesterday at an amazing Mt Smart Stadium, emotional atmosphere and there was no way the Tigers were going to win. A couple of depressing things hit home though, I could count on one hand the amount of times we made it past the 40 metre line, our forwards are the worst in the comp, so soft. Our poor outside backs Ken and Nofo are the only ones making metres apart from that it was non existent. Hastings is really slow and Brooks is worse in the flesh than on TV. You would not have even known that we had a forward pack. On the plus side the young cubs before looked great some big mobile boys who were not scared to run it straight. A major clean out is required asap, particularly of our pack.

How did the young cubs go?

Score?

I saw Pascoe sitting on the kerb outside NRL Headquarters sanding and varnishing something longish with a round thing on one end - looked kind of happy - you know that DIY kind of contented look.

Pole nearly made more meters in his 42mins than Seyfarth & Musgrove made in 80mins, + he made more tackles and missed less.

Seyfarth shouldn’t be anywhere in our top 17 he is deadset plodder of the highest order

Musgrove we are stuck with for years because of Madge and doesn’t dig in when things get tough.

Kelma is just ticking the boxes week to week before his Manly move.

Joe yet again was the only starting forward who showed some hunger 139mtrs & 58 tackles.

Lets play some hungry kids and see what they are made of. Forwards are meant to get us on the front foot. That will never happen if we have Seyfarth, Kelma and Musgrove playing.

I understand the clean out but gee..it's been ages and all we've managed to do is plug holes.
It may be a situation where, to quote a great band, the club is "comfortably numb" and this suits all concerned, whilst the suppporters are chasing an ever elusive holy grail...

Hastings has slipped big time, his lack of speed is being found out & he has zero ability to create anything.

Brooks is a liability both in attack and defence. He is in a very very bad rut and needs a stint in reggies.

Laurie was ineffective, he was running sideways most of the game & would get crunched. His effort was on but he just got out muscled all game.

When Garner made the line break Toa/Ken couldn’t be seen in support let alone when he played the ball. Just total lack of urgency which has been there for last 12-18mths

We aren’t a hungry team, they all play like a bunch of individuals. They play like there is zero unity or drive. This has been the case for a while now & it’s clear we have a very very long way before things change.

Bring on the kids & hunger I say.

Desperately need to announce our new coach
desperately need to move on about 12 from top 30 and
purchase players who are just missing top grade at present clubs about 5 of them
desperate need to buy 5 players on top of Appi and Paapi who are of quality , this would help us head back up the ladder

Brooks held up the left side defence and was one of the few defenders attempting to meet the Warriors on the ad line. His kicking game was the reason we pegged the Warriors deep in their territory in the first half.

12 seasons missing the finals and it looks at this point in time that another couple of years of missing the finals.

The whole organisation is in a complete mess and hard to find how and when they will crawl out of this mess.

Good luck.

Its no coincidence that when Douehi was given the kicking duties we were on the back foot. I still believe his best position is centre where we can still use his bombs when required. We are lacking a kicking game from dummy half also. The extra 10 - 20 metres you gain from dummy half is great advantage. Hopefully Api fixes this next year.

Another couple? More like 5. At the end of the day there are 8 other teams like us who don't have a chance tow in either. Just a crap comp. People will start tuning off one day

I was trying to be nice but agree with another 5 plus years. I will no longer watch any WT for the rest of 2022 and watch NRL games when real quality teams play.

Penrith in my opinion will go back to back premiers.

I said Doueihi was our best half yesterday but I think maybe Brooks was. His defense was really good.

I still think they have to move on from Brooks because at critical times he often doesn't deliver. You cannot doubt his heart or commitment though.

8 missed tackles (double our next worst) is just unacceptable especially against a team we are fighting against for the spoon.

He made 32 tackles and missed 8 against a team fighting with us for the spoon.

He didn’t create a single opportunity, his attacking kicks were way off.

Lets be real here.

Who else created an opportunity ? Our pack got belted. His kicking game was at worst on par with Doueihi.

That missed tackle count is a misleading stat. He made every tackle that was required and he was hitting hard. That is from maybe the smallest player on the field.

If we are being realistic he isn't up to it but who in our team is up to it.

Compare Hastings, Doueihi, Nu Brown and Brooks. No one can seriously state that Brooks was clearly the worst player out of that bunch. That would be so stupid. You could argue he was the best player out of those 4 and it wouldn't be a stupid argument.
