Observations from Yesterday's Game

Look at the game again and Brooks' kicks were deep into the Warriors' halves. As another poster wrote, we badly miss a hooker who can kick out of dummy half like Farah. Once Brooks moved to hooker, the kicking games of Doueihi and Hastings were very poor. Doueihi is not a 6.
You were watching another game. We spent most of the first half defending our line. {possession about 73% to 27%} Wests defense in this period was first class. Probably took its toll in the second half. Adam is not a classic 5/8 but he is a great footballer and can slot in anywhere. Remember it was only his second game back from a long layoff. He went ok. Set up what should have been a try, but our support was nowhere to be found.

Perhaps it was coincidence but our best opportunities occurred on the left. The break from Garner, Ken M stepping back inside when the overlap was created, Garner being pull down a metre or so from the try line after being put into space and the break by Brooks early in the first half when he was pulled down. For me, our outside backs lack pace which impacts Garner and Brooks. Garner will grow at the Panthers and imo will replace Kikau.

Brooks held up the left side defence and was one of the few defenders attempting to meet the Warriors on the ad line. His kicking game was the reason we pegged the Warriors deep in their territory in the first half.
Did you manage to spot him at the defensive line when he moved to the middle?

12 seasons missing the finals and it looks at this point in time that another couple of years of missing the finals.

The whole organisation is in a complete mess and hard to find how and when they will crawl out of this mess.

Good luck.
I’ve never been convinced we are a good team. Even 2011 was on the back of a bit of a late season surge. But then losing to the Warriors in the prelim just reconfirmed it.
Im not sure how people can just watch the past 10 years go by watching every other basket case transition through an aging roster and begin a rebuild whilst we were ecstatic that a couple of seasons we were good enough to almost make it.
This club has been dying a slow death for the past decade because not one individual in the organisation had the balls to say it’s just not good enough, we aren’t getting better, there’s no pot of gold over the horizon. We just need to blow it up and start again.

He made 32 tackles and missed 8 against a team fighting with us for the spoon.

He didn’t create a single opportunity, his attacking kicks were way off.

Lets be real here.
Look through the other halves in the Comp and see which ones were asked to make 40 tackles!!! The bloke is criminally let down by our so called tough guys. Not an NRL forward in sight at our club. Oh yeah, a 21 yo played 22 mins because it would be cruel to ask him to lead these nuffies.

Nathan Cleary made 23 tackles and missed 6 on the weekend .. all in a team that is saturated with rep players

Sack him !!

Few things

- he is moved into hooker for 30mins a game as such tackle rate is higher
- teams have been targeting him for the last 2yrs for a reason.
- Last year he was asked to make double the tackles of Mbye/AD combined , this year same to Hastings.
- Teams know target him to reduce his impact with the ball but also know he is a defensive liability. He averages over the last 2yrs 20% missed tackle rate.
- That isn’t just a forward issue its a clear shift if teams going down his edge. During that time we have had various forwards switch inside with no change.

I defended him last year but he was at least providing us something in return. The last 2mths he has kicked out on the full 5 times, had multiple games of over 6 missed tackles, his kick positional play is defensive & his try/line break assists have dried right up.

He is totally out of form and confidence is shot.

Again, some very astute observations expressed in this thread.
Great footy nous.
Pity the general media and game commentators lack the same level of passion and awareness about our game and our team.

Did you watch Shaun Johnson? He's years past his prime but his kicking game resulted in two tries and every other time the defence was on hand to tackle the receiver. He had a 19 y.o playing outside him with practically no NRL experience, so it's not like he had a foil to buy him time. And no one is bothering to mention his tackle count because who cares when he's winning games like that. Good halves are the difference between winning and losing.

He also had a dominant forward pack providing field position and time to operate. I believe even Kenny and Sterling would struggle behind our pack yesterday.

Dragons won a Comp with Jamie Soward who I think made 6 tackles. Reason/ Beau Scott.

We need more Beau Scott’s and less people blaming the little fella who has a dig.

The Titans pack would eat ours and spit them out - hard to believe that they are in the same position as us. Our blokes try hard but crack when they get outmuscled. Our only hope is mistake footy and some good field position.

If your forwards are unable to establish dominance for your halves to operate, the result will always be the same,
And yet Paws we sacked a coach who wanted our forwards to get the team on the front foot...they failed and he got sacked...hows the team going after we sacked him...Noddy must have eaten a pack of Valium since Madge left...but people seem to blame Hastings and Brooks for the failure...AD needs more time and the team needs to toughen up or get the hell out of here,if they expect Brooks ,Hastings and AD to be the saving grace then they need to choose a new career...NRL isnt for them....

Brooks's long kicking game is underrated.

The forward pack was embarrassing. I saw Hastings get belted a few times because no one was running off him. I get that the halfback is in charge of that stuff, but this isn't junior footy. These guys are professionals. You know your job. You don't need someone to constantly be telling you what to do.

Honestly - Musgrove and Seyfarth should hang their heads in shame. Seyfarth missed a straight forward tackle in the first set of the game to allow one of their players to stroll through. He's supposed to be a tough guy yet shirks it when he's on his own. Musgrove is a plodder when it comes to his running.

Going through the motions. When I watch other games there is tension and flare ups and the forwards seem to care. Our blokes are sweet as long as their pay goes in.
