NSW Liberal Leader Barry O’Farrell has today encouraged Wests Tigers supporters to get behind the team in the Club’s ‘Battle of the West’ Membership campaign.A parochial Wests Tigers supporter, O’Farrell was presented with his 2011 Membership at Leichhardt Oval as the NRL launched ‘The Battle of the West’ campaign that will run for a week from Saturday, February 26\. O’Farrell was joined by professional Australian middleweight boxer and Wests Tigers supporter Daniel Geale.
The ‘Battle of the West’ is the third in a series of Club membership competitions and sees Wests Tigers, Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers in a battle to sign the most Members in the week. The winning Club will receive $10,000 from the NRL.
Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah presented the Opposition Leader with a “O’Farrell 1” jersey before handing over a ‘Geale 11’ jersey to the boxer.
"Supporting the Wests Tigers is great but becoming a Member is even better because then you're part of the Club which makes sharing in the team's success even more special,’’ O’Farrell said.
Farah rallied supporters who are not Wests Tigers Members to cross ‘The Line That Divides’ in 2011.
“Members are more than just fans at Wests Tigers. By becoming a Member, they demonstrate a real commitment to our Club to support us through thick and thin,’’ Farah said.
“Loyalty like that is very inspiring for the players and we need as many fans to take the next step and become Members. During this Battle of the West race, I hope Wests Tigers fans who have not yet become Members will be encouraged to join us so we can be the most popular Club out of our Western Sydney counterparts.”
Geale challenged Wests Tigers supporters to get in the same corner as him and knock out the opposition. A former IBO Middleweight World Champion, Geale is ranked number 1 in the IBF and will fight for the belt in his next bout.
“As a resident of the Macarthur region, I am proud to be a Wests Tigers Member. Wests Tigers will have a very strong season and I know they can win the premiership. It would be a great start to the season by winning ‘The Battle of The West’,’’ Geale said.
