Off season signings

I know it`s easy in hindsight and it`s only early in the season, but it`s already looking as if Mitch Brown and Geoff Daniela are dud buys and Jason Cayless isn`t looking too promising either. Wouldn`t it have been nice to have kept Shannon Gallant instead of signing Brown and Daniela and even nicer to have signed Willie Mason instead of Jason Cayless !!!

Cayless I am prepared to give some time but he's VERY underdone at the moment. What's a concern is that he has lost all his size, he was a monster at the Roosters, just isn't very big at all anymore. I hope he can make a positive contribution in a few weeks when he is fully fit but geez he doesn't look good at the moment.

Brown and Daniela were mediocre buys from mediocre clubs.

Flanagan looks good though; and Moors is going OK. And Lotto is going great.

Hopefully Brown and Daniela were not high price signings so no big deal if they dont set the world on fire; and by the way despite a lot of bad reports I am not giving up on Brown yet based on what I have seen last year.

I had never had much hope for Daniella and Brown. More back ups than anything else. Cayless is looking very tentative. One would assume it will take some time to get back to his best. Sheens conceded he was in poor shape when he came to the club. I will give him some time before passing judgment.

Only off-season buys who have proven themselves are tuqiri and I think flanagan played well today. I also look forward to seeing AJ

Just read any of my posts for the last 6 months. I didn't need hindsight I told everyone the second these bad decisions were being made.

Can anyone believe Gallant was only given a $50,000 deal by the Fonz, and he spends twice that on Brown and Daniela?

If we get a heap of injuries we will be in the bottom 4\. If we get limited injuries and the Fonz picks the best players in their right positions we will be in the hunt.

LOL….no one needs to perform a search to see if you are telling the truth bug....we all read it ad- nauseam,
Still early days im hoping, but I too thought people were confusing quantity with quality re: our recruiting

Mighty mouse should have stayed!
Good fullback with loads of speed and would have allowed moltzen to start the season at 7.
A recruitment blunder if i have ever seen one!

I still think our recruitment & retention has been excellent.

Our squad is top quality and some turnover of fringe players is good.

Cayless hasnt been as good as I would have thought, need to give him time though.
Flannagan played better than expected yesterday, even with a lot to ask considering the circumstances.
Moors has been pretty meh for me, although like Cayless could take time.
Lote has been all class.

Would have loved to keep Mighty Mouse though…

MOORS SHOWED SOME IMPROVEMENT YESTERDAY IN A BADLY BEATEN SIDE.

Honestly, you blokes surprised by Cayless being poor obviously don't watch much footy.

He was slowing down big time before he left the NRL…..........he went to England and played a few good games over there three years ago. The past two years he's barely played / too slow / broken down.

And people thought he could slot back into the NRL. That's laughable.

He's lost all of the bulk that made him a good prop in 2002-2004 and he's lost nearly all of his mobility / speed due to injuries. So, no extra bulk + lack of mobility = NRL standard? Ummm, no.

Fafita is light years ahead of him at this stage. Cayless may have the odd moment or two where he looks okay, but he hasn't got a solid season in him.

Really, he should be down in the state cup getting tonnes of game time. 15 mins off the bench isn't going to help him at all.

Theres no hindsight at all in this. Anyone with a clue knew that Daniela, Brown & Moors were us being desperate to fill a roster. Flanighan and Cayless were harder to judge and looks like they wont justify their pay cheques. Lote, well, i for 1 thought he might not be up to it but im more than happy with him thus far.

The fact that Daniela and Brown are being overlooked for the likes of Fitzy shows they are window dressing at best this year.

To be honest i would call Brown and Daniela as back up signings. Players signed so that if injury hits we can use them then. Cayless will do well for us once he gets his match fitness up. Sheens said he expect at least till round 6 before Cayless got going.

Flanagan had a much better game yesterday and i'm hopeful about what he can do for us. Moors i'm not really sold long term with him. Perhaps Fifita offers more coming from the bench?

I was thinking that yesterday. Fafita didn't look out of place at all. Cayless, on the other hand, needs a refresher course on the game - he definitely should not have been a walk-up start.

Sound like were panicking….

We arn't a club that can afford to buy to many players at the peak, so we speculat on a few and bring the rest up from juniors.

Some days it will all click and on others when it doesnt - BB will wanna murder Coach Sheens.

Where still a few years away from where we want to be....

Cayless, moors, Brown, flanagan, tupou, daniella, etc will all be on contracts befiting their status and expected performance level. Tigers execs not the beggers we once were....

We really need the Big guys to Tackle and for Lui to get more time at No 7 - the rest will fallin to place soon.

Heads up...

I think and hope Daniela and Brown were only signed as backup players and weren't paid too much for their contracts. Hopefully the play well in NSW Cup so if we unfortunately get some injuries in the back they will be able to go OK in firstgrade.

Cayless has been disappointing. It's like he isn't playing that hard because he is worried about getting injured again. We can't have a prop in firstgrade with that mindset.

I think Moors is better in the second row than the front row. I think he should only play front row if we really need him to. I guess he could be handy in the 17 incase one of our props are playing badly

Flanagan will turn out OK I think. Has only played 2 NRL games and is still very young and will get better with experience. Probably not a bad selection for the interchange.

Lote is going to be great for us over the 3 years that he will be here for  Great on the wing and I think he will be great at fullback too. People said he is slow now but they were obviously wrong. He might be 30 but he played on the wing in union for years so his body hasn't been through much tough stuff as it would have in league.

Looking forward to see how Tupou will go at prop in NSW Cup when he comes back from injury.

And Shannon Gallant isn't even getting a run at the Cowboys..
What a massive loss that is….
Moors I think has been excellent and will help provide competition for spots in the backrow. He has a bit of agility for his size and good leg drive.
Cayless has been disappointing but I think we should reserve judgment a bit later than round 2...
Daniella and Brown are depth purchases as we seemingly had no need for a fullback and they can cover a couple of positions in the backline. Not that they are setting the world on fire but they are hardly bringing the club into disrepute.

But I still believe this lot of off season purchases was much better than any previous season bar the 2003 signing rampage.

So do i! I think we brought very smart…

Lote is the biggest and probably will turn out to be the best signing the club has made to date.
Flanagan looks to be settling in amazingly fast for some with very minimal expirience at the top flight! He was brought on potential, yet Sheen is already using him regularly it would seem.
Brown and Daniella perhaps were not needed, but signing players WITH first grade expirience as backup is a very smart move
Cayless will need time, but thus far hasn't set the world on fire. None-the-less his signing gives us depth in the front-row in any event.
Fulton (I was critical off...) for mine has already shown is going to be an absolute gun this season and a will prove to be a GREAT buy.
Moors again has played solid... while not spectacular. He has added further depth to our front-row...

Why are these signings considered weak? I think we recruited better than any other club......
