no Hunt again , what is the go with him is he injured or are we trying to remove him from the club , we need impact and he brings it , confusing calls by the coach , Staines had a bad one but gee he has been ok over multiple games , I hope we go well as we normally put up a big one against the panthers , I say we go
18/14 win
May Jnr again has a bottler
May Snr again does his work
AD to go very well again
Skelton to put one hit that counts on a panther 😁
Oh we’ll be beating the Panthers, no worries about that 😁

Here is a plan to get it done.

Wests Tigers v Penrith Panthers – High Energy to Counter the Grind

This weekend we face the Panthers in a winnable game. We demonstrated in the last outing what it takes to defeat the Panthers – High Energy to counter the grind on both sides of the ball. Use smart load management to maintain energy levels: start Hope in place of Api to soak up the energy of the first 20 minutes and replace AD with Bird to maintain an attacking 13 for the duration of the game. Sione F and Pole to be used to shift momentum as required.

We must avoid getting into the grind with Penrith by playing conservatively – this plays into their hands.

Disrupt Penrith’s flow in attack
  • Push up and in on Cleary and Talagi with a compressed defensive line in the middle third of the field; however, maintain high inside pressure to react quickly to any attempt to shift early.
  • Use a combined rush/block defence in the red zone to negate Penrith’s kicking game and upset their block plays. Middle and edge defenders to pressure Cleary/Talagi and provide inside pressure on the play. Outside defence moves forward and holds position to protect against the short kicking game and tip on plays to the outside backs.
  • Nullify Maclean and Tago by holding the edge line fast. Edges to bite on the inside runners to avoid being exposed by decoy shapes. Compress the defensive line in the middle third but maintain high inside pressure to react to quick shifts and to provide adequte cover/early scramble.
  • Contest the kicks - don't allow Edward/Too tie to engage the line off kicks - arrive with the ball and use our kicking game as attacking opportunities. Target AD through the middle and May on the edge.
Avoid the Grind
  • Panthers typically compress their defence and slow the ruck speed. Challenge them on edges with sweep plays when this occurs.
  • Shift early and often to attack Penrith's smaller outside backs with a combination of crash/quick PTB to provide momentum and footwork at the line to break the defence.
  • Utilise AD/Bird to provide a running threat with their footwork but also shift the point of attack one pass wider of the ruck to generate momentum if we stall.
  • Use Api/Taruva to change momentum when Api comes off the bench. Attack the tiring ruck defence with Taruva capitalising on Api’s deception instead of taking hitups off the ruck. This will also open up space for Luai and Latu as the markers compress to counter.
Triggers & Adjustments
  • If Cleary starts kicking in behind the line to counter the up and in defensive strategy maintain the line speed but switch to a sliding defence.
  • If Penrith are dominating our attack with their line speed execute early kick set - Latu/Luai to kick in behind the line to Taylan/Toa or Api to attempt 40/20 to disrupt Penrith's defensive strategy.
Are you a public servant by any chance?
I ask because a hundred years ago when I worked for Telstra I'd fill the boredom of the workday planning tactics for the next game for the basketball team I played in.

I'd write out notes like yours........that I never used.

So what variety of pen pusher are you?

Always remember the old public service edict;

”never read the paper in the morning, so you’ve got something to do after lunch“.
we had a whole subculture based on (large family) mates Dad , worked high up in a bank , worked Harold Park in the money room for fun. Character was called Specs Gordon ,as in Flash Gordon , super nerd ,pen pusher . Good for fancy dress n some ridicule if you did something dorky that paid of.

"Tu’itupou will start on the left wing outside good friend May, with Jeral Skelton switching to the right wing."

Interesting change mentioned at the end of a SMH article, particularly with Bula due back in a week and Turuva to return to the wing then.
