One month to save reputations

Guys I can't ever remember being as shell shocked, devastated, angry and ultimately embarrassed to be a Wests Tigers fan then last night. There is only one game it can compare to and that is the disgraceful surrender to a last place, injury ravaged Newcastle after holding a 12 point lead with 6 minutes left. Last night we held a 16 point lead, against a totally depleted and out gunned Souths, and the next 30 minutes was just totally embarrassing and sad. A win and the finals was a lock in now we are under real pressure having invited Souths back into the competition, it was unforgivable. I know a lot of people say they would rather miss the semis and get rid of Sheens. I have probably said it too, however i think its said more in anger and it would be truly gutting to miss the finals again.

This next month a lot of reputations go on the line. I have heard our coach and captain whinge that we are not getting players in rep teams. I have heard our coach whinge before the Manly game that we are not getting the raps we deserve. The time for talk is over, its time to deliver for the first time in 5 seasons. Guys like Sheens, Farah, Marshall, Galloway, Gibbs, Lawrence, even Beau Ryan have big profiles in the game. For a club that has failed the last 4 seasons they get a pretty easy ride in terms of fans still turning up, media loves us, footy show loves us etc. If they were to bomb out again I honestly don't know if I would have the energy to continually travel around Sydney supporting them 18-20 times a year. It is just so demoralising when you lose because of the same issues, the same lack of intensity, the same brain dead plays, the same woeful tackling, the same coaching madness.

Anyway we will learn in the next month whether these guys have the mental toughness that they didn't have the past 4 seasons. The past month our form has been dead set awful if we are honest. Lucky escapes against the Cows and Sharks at Leichhardt, an easy loss to Manly and that disgrace last night. On that form we won't win one looking at the tough run in, and that would surely ruin some players and coaches reputations badly. I think every Tigers fans has that horrible feeling in their stomach now that things are about to unravel. The signs have been there for weeks. Many said that when those bounces of the ball and refs calls start going the other way, which started last night, we will be left exposed.

The last loss to Souths was some sort of catalyst, I wonder where this one will lead. Because we have a lot of big names with a lot to prove. The team owes the fans this season, big reputations have been built and sustained on something that happened 5 years ago. Now or never for this group under this coach.

Excellent Post!!!!

They all need to have a good long shower…

Agree 100% but i still think we need to start fresh with a new coach, because Sheens has constantly killed the team with poor team selections and bad tactics during the game. The boys need to do what the Marketing department sold the memberships on STEP UP … and be counted

What has been the game plan each week?
Lets see….
No one runs hard onto the ball.......maybe Hino is the only play that does not play flat footed.
Every kick off is low and short and does not give the defence time to stop the opposition getting to the 20 mtr line 1st tackle,
Every penalty is a shocker, we never make more than 20 mtrs, surely someone can take advantage of a penalty and get field position?
We never get clean ball from a scrum, take a look at who tackles or ball carrier from most scrums.....yes an opposition front rower.....how can they break from the scrum and still get across field to hit our ball carrier......?
I just wonder why we have so many in the coaching staff that the alarm bells have not been ringing with so many stats so obvious, yet week after week we do the same things?

A well thought out post Eddie i agree totally with what you have said.We are lucky that we are in charge of our own destiny limping into the semis is not an option.STAND UP AND SHOW YOUR CHARACTER

Good post Eddie, I think you are on the money it will be an interesting month.
*on a side note, how can anyone seriously want us to miss the 8 just to get rid of our coach, I can't accept that, it's the same types that cheer for Qld when they dont get the team they want in Origin…harden up.

here, here Eddie. Those same tears welled up in my eyes at ANZ as they had against the Knights in '07.

It's gotta be a big step up this weekend too. The Panthers will be a huge test. I really hope we can.
Gotta keep the faith though. Regardless of this weekend's result, and we may have a few players out, I reckon (am hopeful) that we can topple the Eels and Melbourne and make the 8.

Good post Eddie. I feel this Sunday at Campbelltown could really define the Tigers season. They're up against a side who they have a terrible record, possibly the worst record in the NRL against and who pretty much aim up against the Tigers every time they play.

If the Tigers can show some real backbone and structure and knock over Penrith, then they could well go on and still make the top 4\. If they let their heads drop though, it will get ugly.

As Rocky Balboa once said, "It's not about how hard you get hit, it's about how hard you get hit while still moving forward".

Well Eddie I like what your saying but I really doubt things are going to change much over the next four games. From the outside it looks like the playing group is splintered and pulling in different directions. It also looks like Sheens hast lost the total support of the group. These things do not just turn around in a week. They are slow to build up and even slower to dissipate.

Than of course their are the basic fundamentals that are missing. Players that cant catch high balls, players that cant tackle, players that continue to take poor options and players who continue to get caught out of postion, how hell can they fix these problems in a month that have been going on for over four years.

2010 we have gone backwards in every area except the competition points table. We need one hell of a major overhaul to freshen this club up. As for the next month, maybe one win if we are lucky and in and out of semi finals in a week

Something has got to give. We're getting through by the skin of our teeth every week. We're promised every week that the next gear will be found the following game, it doesn't happen.

I guess we should be thankful the standard of competition has fallen away with us.

It's time for these players to make good let the fans cash in on our overspent patience and faith in the club.

You do support the Tigers don't you Eddie?

You don't remember putting 40 on Penrith only to get run down, or the 60 point thrashing at the hands of Melbourne.

Remember when we couldn't win in extra time - all those times… the Canberra game for example.

I hate to say it but I have been as devastated many times before and this is no different.

Or the 50-10 loss to souths of which i think was far worse that saturday night. We dropped our guard on the weekend and got made to pay for it eventually.

It was 31-8 against Penrith before they mowed us down…....I agree with Eddie for the record in the context of things with a finals berth all but assured it hurts like hell to see your side play without conviction or real hunger.

Fair post, Eddie. I too hope that the boys will use this loss like they used the other loss to Souths this year. Another season without making the finals will be hard to take.

Can't argue with any of that, this is it.

Super coach unfortunatly i'm getting the same feeling alls not well at camp concord I no nothing about any problems but just following the game for over 40 yrs I just get the impression all is not what it seems this is a hunch only.

Great post Eddie, you are right on the money.

Personally I cant see the boys pulling this back. They have been playing like this for the majority of the season.
I still hold some sort of hope that if we can jag 1 win in the next month we will make the 8 and then who knows?

Realistically though we could just as easily be flogged in the four remaining games.

The games against Cowboys , Sharks came at the wrong time , we knew we could beat them so we never put a 110% effort preparing for it however all remaining games are tough and wont be easy. I do expect a different mind set from the boys especially knowing Panthers , Eels , Storm and Titans all will like to belt us ..
If we had a tough run home starting three weeks ago we would have kept our grinding style footy intact and maintained better ball security.

Did you even watch the game people. For mine 14 players had good to great games and unfortunatly 2 were fing horrible (Ryan and Lote) and Lui was average but mainly we had 2 players to be dissapointed in Beau had a horror night and Lote well he seems to have gone too long without a break in his first year back after back to back seasons unfortunatly - McKinnon plays we win by 20, I think mayby Lote needs a couple of weeks off to rest before the end of the yr and Beau well he was just had an unlucky and bad game it happens unfortunatly for us it cost us every time
