Opinions re: former WT players still in the NRL

Pearce never played in the district mate - that is a fact!!

As I said - he was already living on the North Shore when he was primary school age (and winning state athletics titles in the 800m)!

Sheens did try to get him to the Tigers but he preferred Easts after he finished at Norths!

The reference in the book may have been for another reason!

Kurtley Beale is another interesting one if he is in there! He is a Mt Druitt league junior & his only ties to the Balmain district come from him playing union at St Josephs, Hunters Hill!

Not trying to a be a know-it-all or put crap on you buddy - but I am just relaying the facts!!

HT - thanks for Kouparitsis (no wonder I forgot him) - and you are right we also had his younger brother Kosta (a prop) playing in the juniors! They were originally Canberra juniors however!

I remember seeing that photo too. Ill have to have another look but i think he was playing for North Ryde. But one season (if it happened) doesnt make him a tiger junior in my eyes, he was clearly a Norths junior. Just like i dont consider Farah a tiger junior becasue he played for Wanderers, he was originally a Doggy.

Mitchell Pearce definately played for North Ryde u/12s in 2001\. My son played against him, for Concord Burwood United.

to be honest I am pleased for Bronson Harrison to be going very well.
seemed to blossom once he joined the raiders.
.
would be nice to see Dene Halatau have a injury free run, to see his potential acheived.

That has been confirmed Mrs T - he & Beale played there in 2001 - but that was their only year in the Balmain league!

Like kul - I don't consider that being a Balmain junior when he played all junior reps at Norths via Asquith Magpies & Marist College North Shore!

wesTAHger - I am also pleased for Bronson - and not surprised that he spurned Parra to stay at the Raiders for three more years!!

I spoke to Raiders Chairman John McIntyre after he was signed and assured him what a great signing & loyal kid that he was! He has more than lived up to my appraisal!!

Maybe "Balmain Junior" was a term to open for interpretation… I was simply referring to the fact that I had seen him in the book (About Balmain Juniors)
But I would however, consider playing for the Hawks "Playing in the District"

As stated batboy - I have been corrected on that point & was unaware of the single season played at North Ryde!!

I was totally correct about him being a North Sydney junior however & never questioned his being in the book!

He never lived in the district while playing or played junior reps in the district would have been more correct - but as I said I stand corrected in regards to u/12s in 2001!

Cheers mate! Happy to be corrected - but for the purposes of this thread's context - he is hardly a former Tiger or "definitely a Balmain Junior" or one that got away!

Forum has been a bit quiet of late and I saw people discussing Shannon Gallant in another thread so the biggest biceps on the forum ; **demps** brings you a new topic to discuss.

I know some posters take things the wrong way so to make it real simple to understand; what are your thoughts, opinions and rating of players who formerly played for WT that still play in the NRL.

A few spring to mind, for me - but feel free to add to the list and name players and your opinion or thoughts on them. I'll start things off with the following, NB: no crying.
\
\
**Bronson Harris** 8/10
Consistently plays well, is a part of the openly proclaimed strongest pack in the NRL.
_Would I welcome him back? Definitely :slight_smile:_

**Shannon Gallant** 4/10
As stated was mentioned in a few other threads, struggling to get a crack with the basement dwellers.
Not really a fan, played well sometimes, had some speed but an average footballer at best.
_Would I welcome him back? Not interested_

**Dene Halatau** 6/10
Used to be one of my favorite players when he played for us, good utility option, however after leaving us he hasn't really done much for the dogs. I imagine he'll be playing in super league in the not to distant future as the dogs won't really have much need for him.
_Would I welcome him back? Don't see where he'd fit into our current team. Would have to give him a miss this time, unfortunately._

**Dane Laurie** 0/10
Can't say too much about this guy without breaking many of the forums rules.
_Would I welcome him back? Wouldn't even let him mow my lawn._

**Isaac De Gois** 4/10
Has a good game every 1 out of 7 - don't really rate him at all, I think he'd be bottom 10 hookers in the NRL.
_Would I welcome him back? Naaa_

**John Morris** 6/10
Was a good player for us, always stepped up in whatever role. Seemed like a good dude also, however I don't watch many Sharks games because they're imo one of the boringest teams in the comp. Wish him the best tho
_Would I welcome him back? Can't see how he'd fit into our team. Sorry John._

**Scott Prince** 9/10
Not much to say about Princey, he helped WT get to the 05 finals and nowadays he constantly tries his best and sees results.
_Would I welcome him back? No. Would rather stick with Lui_

**Ben T'eo** 6/10
Average player, not the best defender or attacker. Has a good game every now and then but overall not impressive.
_Would I welcome him back? Naa, not needed & Beau Ryan is no doubt a better footy show star._

Id rate Halatau a 2/10, he has very ordinary commitment to defence and im very happy we let him go.

De Gois is a good hooker and i'd rate him a 7

Agree about De Gois, bit of a harsh rating Demps. IMO of course.

A 2/10 is very harsh for Halatau, he was very useful to us for a long period of time. I wouldn't have anyone back though, Bronson maybe, but we have so much up and coming talent in the back row.

de gois is the one that stood out fo me also.

I would also have him at about 7

2nd best hooker in NSW no doubt!!!!

Not as much attacking flair as Farah - but has some genuine venom in defence!!

Peter Wallace also played a season in the Balmain junior league

Mark Riddell went to Cross

Go 4 it Red….

I thought Daine Laurie rating was a bit high Only good game he played was the Monday nighter against Parra when he took Fui Fui on Probably cost us top 8 in 09 when he just had to catch a pass from Gareth Ellis in Storm game and would of scored under post Highly over rated player

I was beginning to like you demps and agree with all but 2….

Issac De Gois should be the NSW hooker should Robbie be unavailable....9/10

Dene Halatau will be a boom for the Scumdogs this year.....get his Kiwi jersey back too 9.5/10

Geo agree about De Gois, Maybe thinking Ka Pows better days are just a little bit on the slide, I could be wrong, Although had some great times with us, What ya thinking?

Mundine also played in the Balmain junior league despite being a Revesby boy - don't count any of them as ex-Tigers or fair dinkum Balmain juniors brother!!!

At least we all agree on Isaac De Gois!!!

2nd best in NSW (or third best after daylight)!!

As for Dene - if not for injuries he would have been the biggest metre-eater for the dogs last year! Lovely bloke & I love his hard yards - just needs to stop dropping off tackles after the initial hit!!!

Yes, that and also being lazy covering the inside. The amount of breaks he contributed to becuase he was lazy getting across were unbelievable. Heighno was the same for a period and when we had both these players on the field together we would get eaten alive by inside balls. Thankfully Dene is gone and Heighno is now one of the best at covering the inside.

Cannot disagree KS!!!! His defensive lapses have been the biggest blight on what could have been a stellar career!!

His second efforts & reading in defence became non-existent - & with a bloke like Stagg playing his preferred position at the dogs - he needs to shape up or head to England!!

(Still a lovely bloke though! And 2/10 might be a tad harsh!) But I appreciate and agree with your points!

Jase Schirnack is another who shows how important it is to defend the inside shift (very good at it)!!!

Out of what demps listed, I'd only have Kapow or Bronson back, and even then I wouldn't shaft anyone to make room for either of them since we are bursting at the seams for quality second rowers.

I wouldn't have Prince back on principle.

I am with you re: Prince CB!!! 2006 will forever live in my memory!!!

Aside from the principle we agree upon - I also believe (having watched him try to play in a dinner suit in many games in 2010 + the All Stars game) that he no longer has the hunger to fully compete while he is busy getting houses built & looking after his whinging missus!!!!

He is forever dead to me!!!! And both Lui & Moltz have the potential to be better than he ever was!!!!

His flagrant disregard for the fans of this club by under performing in 2006 was disgraceful and i'll never forgive any player who shows no pride in our jersey or uses us as a transit club. I would have had more respect for him if he requested a release and sat the year out or played for another club.

Fitzy may have been maligned, but that guy bled for our colours and will always be personally held in higher esteem than that dog Prince, irrespective of what he did in 2005!
