Our Attack -Hooker

Its 2 games…

They trained all off season with a view to the halves in Brooks and Reynolds playing both sides of the ruck...i think the late withdrawal of Reynolds prior to round 1 threw them a bit..

They have now gone back to Benji running the right hand side and Brooks the left...i hope they are just working it out and eventually go to both sides ...

I agree with your comments on the hooker..it is just minimum standard atm ...Godinet had some good monments last night tho...Matt is just a bit player now to give Godinet and Taylor a rest...

It will be at least Rd 6-8 before we see Liddle in 1st grade ..

Yes we have lost a half week 1 24 hours before the game and a fullback 48 hours before the game week 2 and the spine hadn't played together previously barring 1/2 a game in the trials

I know throwing a pass seems like just throwing a pass , but it does take a little time to get a players timing in regards to the speed and lines they run

Give it a week or two I say

Godinet has been terrible both games.

Brooks needs to move to hooker. He's playing a nothing role in the halves and our play falls down most times Luke gets it. Very surprised he's getting so much praise for his game. Marshall is carrying us. Brooks moves to nine really improves 2 key areas IMO.

A nothing role ..?

I must be watching different games

Geo has summed it up well. Once match fit, Liddle definitely gives us the spark we need at 9 but we're going to have to wait it out a few more weeks. The improved depth we have though is really paying dividends early on though.

I think he'll put the grub into hooker where along with Marshall will fire up the boys, liddle on the bench..with the option of resting Renyolds of Marshall depending on the vibe of the match.. Tui and Chee kam dropped to ISP.,Thompson to stay at fullback.

I reckon Cleary didn't want us playing expansive footy early on with all the new players and combos.
If we keep up our defense, Liddle coming into the squad will ensure our attack will evolve.

Is the team winning ? One step at a time defence has always been the biggest issue with the team , all the work seems have been spent on this ,so the next step when Liddle/ Reynolds return would be the attacking aspect of the game then things really will be interesting moving forward.

Reynolds perfect for hooker.
He debuted in the NRL playing hooker. He knows the role and gives us great attacking options out of dummy half.

I can't believe the praise either. It's ridiculous how much he offers in attack for someone playing their 5th year in first grade. He is deadset useless and everyone would be giving it to him this season if it wasn't for Benji controlling both games. He has a role to play in the team and if he is not capable of doing that role he needs to be dropped it's that simple. RF is a MUCH better player and look at the treatment he got.

Wow …......... I’m speechless ........... Wow

We just have to make do with the two hooker's we currently have… Liddell won't be up for 80 either when he's back which is still 6 weeks away or so.
Ivsn has mentioned Reynolds in the 9 so I will expect this soon tho it didn't look promising in the trials.
Lots of early one out running with no bodies in support is making it easy for opposition to pick off our forwards reducing opportunities for our dummy halves.
You must bend or break the line before the 9s can do much

It didn't last long (Reynolds at 9 ) and he looked extremely frustrated when he came off Ink

I can see the point that KS is making , but I'm not convinced now that Reynolds and Benji will mix well

Tell Ivan…. I didn't really like Reynolds at 9 either

I mean it was great he scored the try to win the game but I want him to show more in attack. Besides his defense I just don't see much improvement. His kicking game is woeful, he runs at the wrong times (for all the speed he has he rarely finds space), and he often looks rushed and lost in attack. Anyway I want to stop sounding like a broken record. I am not talking about Brooks anymore. If Ivan feels he is the best option at halfback, he knows best.

I don't know why everyone is expecting our attack to be anything other than average considering most of our spine was lucky to spend a little more than an off-season together. We're still in the experimenting stage with the attack and the new combos, this season was only ever going to be a rebuild with Cleary at the helm.

At this point in time we only have Godinet and McIlwrick at our disposal and our defence is what is winning us games, against good quality attacking clubs. With a couple of months and Liddle moving into the side we'll start to develop an attacking dynamic but it's going to take time. Until then there's not much we can do but work on those little 1%, like moving forward of the ad line and offering flat balls onto our forwards to make an impact, quick PTBs to get on the front foot.

Benji's kicking game is the best option we have at the moment so I think if we keep defending the way we have and utilizing his kicking game we'll get over the line every game UNTIL we further develop the combos and attacking dynamic.

Winning by a PG is never ideal but at the end of the day nabbing those 2 prem points is what the boys show up for every week and they're getting the job done.

Everyones talking up Liddle at the moment…he isn't available for another 5/6 rounds...we have to rely on MM and Godinet to keep playing dh roles....Liddle may not even work out playing NRL hooker after coming back from injury..people can only assume he will be our hooker saviour....he will be tested
We have won 2 games against very, very good opposition using MM and Pita, you can bag them all you like but they are playing their best under Ivans structures....winning form is good form...maybe JR will be the answer at dh under Ivans instructions, but as always we will have to wait and see what he is going to do...

Your worried about attack this early on?

Played the 2 best defensive teams in comp. we won and now we have arm chair coaches ?

Ok then

Deft tactical withdrawal.

Cmon hooker is clearly an area that could be improved. A lot of passes are late and difficult for others to catch. Great we are winning but its okay to goss on improvements. Hooker is clearly to be improved heh

Said it a few times , we are playing footy far too far away from the ad line , we need to play closer to the line to create more pressure and to make the opposition have to make defensive decisions

At the moment the opposition has time to react to our attack , we need to change that

Our big weapons aren't being utilized with flat balls close to the line or in situations where defenders have to make decisions

Those weapons are Aloiai and Marsters (Lawrence also , but his hands get ugly when we play at the line )

The minute they become utilized oppositions will need to make decisions , that's when Brook's running game will become a weapon also

It might take a little time , but the defence is their and remember we have probably faced arguably the two best defensive sides in the comp

Your right but as you highlighted our ball runners don't have a good track record with their hands taking balls in traffic and our passes tend to throw plenty of flat passes forward. I guess its all about training drills and plenty of hard work. Manly were very good at it yesterday, but Parra have plenty of players who don't want to tackle

I think Marshall is good for Brooks and the forwards take a lot of pressure off..I can't bag Brooks on he's effort against the Storm, I just hope he can stay consistent with he's kicking game, the only one aspect that lets him down.

It annoys me at times as well… We ask no questions of the defence being so deep and with no speed... Deep is fine if you have a Roberts and a JAC in your backline.
Hopefully with more confidence in our defence we can gradually improve the attack..play a bit flatter, have more decoys and bodies in motion
