Our best loss ever?

For me that loss, even felt as close to a win a it could.

Although we didn't leave AAMI Park with the 2 points, we played to win and played with purpose. For the first time in awhile, they looked galant in defeat and every WT supporter would be proud by their teams effort!

So, I guess I second your statement. It was our "best loss".

There was a loss against Stains at Kogarah a few back where we played pretty well, put in and had a dig…2011 I think....Melb effort better tho imo

I think I remember that one, Ink.

Mid April, Sunday afternoon at Kogarah. We let Saints get away from us but managed to claw our way back in it with tries to Motzen and Fafita (if I remember correctly).

The thing that stands out most about Monday nights game was that we were always 'in it' (at least untill the 63rd minute mark).

The Bulldogs game last year when we got shafted on the obstruction call and the Major Semi loss to the Drags in 2010 when we got shafted on the Jeremy Smith knees into Lote's back no-call were honourable losses also from memory.

Hi folks,

I agree it was a great effort for an hour, although as for the best ever, I thought straight away of the loss to the Roosters in the semi-final a couple of years ago. The WT did everything right for 65 mins of the game, the line speed was phenomenal, and I remember Bryce Gibbs' chance on Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Dwyer's hit on Wearea-Hargreaves, so many other highlights from that game. Also, I thought the game vs Parra in 09 and the semi-final loss to the Dragons in 2010 were standouts.

At the end of the day we just want to see our boys have a dig, and they certainly did last week, let's hope they can put in the same effort for the opposite result this week. It should be interesting to see how they go without Benji.

There is no guarantee that the loss to the Storm will either.

I think we'll take a lot out of it….doesnt have to necesarrily mean results

Its a different era. We all saw that Monday.
Somethings gotta give.
And no - it is no guarantee.

Fade to Black.

We MAY take something out of it but we also may not. There has been plenty of times in the last few years when we have had a good, gutsy performance which leads people to believe that we have turned a corner and then we have followed it up with a crap effort. Hope we got something out of that game but time will tell.

I thought our loss to the Broncs last year was a good loss. We were undermanned, everyone including the fans were calling the team soft, the Broncs were on fire and they only just got us. They scored a couple of early ones and I thought 'here we go' and then they hammered our line for an about 50 minutes and took a bit of a lead only to watch that vanish at the games end…think they only won by 4?

Our defence was heroic that night a man down for a lot of the game after Groat got knocked-the-F-out by Teo. With the possession they had and the field position they should have run 50+ past us. Somehow we still had enough energy to mount a mini comeback and if Benji has the radar on his boot conversion wise, the scores end up tied. That was a good effort that night in defence.

Think it showed us a way forward but we can expect to take a step forward then a step or 2 back before finding any sort of consistent rhythm.

Thought the game plan against both Eagles & Storm was very good..it was just our lack of execution that lets us down. Would really like to know who was responsible for thinking it through and putting it together.

The real positive I see is we have lost a lot of players early and this has given us a chance to 'blood' some of the younger players early on in the season and find out what level they are at now, without the pressure of potential finals footy in the back end of the season.

If the injury report is right and we don't have a lot of major injuries in the next 3-4 weeks it looks like we are going to have a heap of forward options around the middle stages of the comp and put us in a position to power home. This will help keep pressure on the incumbents in NRL and allow our State Cup and NYC teams to catch up at the same time.

The problem I see is with the backs, especially in attack. TBH I can't decide if the problem is being caused by the lack of go forward by the forwards or individual back capability. Think if we get consistent go forward and our forwards continue to "attack" in defence we will quickly identify if the back's issue is individual capability. Until then I think MP won't make too many non injury related changes and will focus on developing combinations

On Benji..I have seen a definite change in his attitude in defence and attack and seen a willingness to get more involved in the mundane tasks of hitting the ball up and defence. IMO this just shows what his mindset was during the Sheens era..i.e. I set up tries and kick..don't have to tackle or take hit ups myself. IMO this shows he is starting to realise that this is not just a R&B show and he needs to contribute a lot more if he wants to stay in the team. Also think that his injury happened at the best time of the year for us and will give MP a chance to experiment with different combinations and strategies in the next 3-4 weeks so we will find out exactly how much Benji adds or subtracts to overall Team performance. If it were me I would replace him with a player who had strong defensive capabilities, was prepared to take the line on and leave the organising and kicking to Braith and Robbie. And the see what effect this had on our defensive & attacking structures..and performance.

On Robbie..think his replacement against Manly was a timed right early in the season and a message that the Team has to be able to deliver without you ..and you need to let other players take more responsibility or we will go no where. His replacement during origin should NOT BE Masafa..so expect someone else to be picked and given some time pre origin.

On BMM..if were possible to give him a mindset similar to Bodine we would have a backrow pairing that would be unstoppable in attack and scary in defence. Suppose I can only dream..

Quote- Well Said! But who would be your replacment for Farrah and Benji?

Replacement for Robbie - Depends a bit on who we play and if Benji has returned but would use Luani as he is a very strong defender and gives good quick service from dummy half and if the forwards continue the go forward from Monday night that is all we will need.

Replacement for Benji - I would give the job to Sirro on the basis that he is playing 5/8 at the moment (albeit in NYC), will take the line on and has the size/footwork to cause some problems, has good hands and a reasonable short kicking game, is definitely be a better defensive player than Benji and when he played NRL last year he was not overawed and made a solid contribution in all games.

again those losses didnt lead to a shift in culture.
It didnt impact who we are.
But i know where you're coming from.
Lets see what happens after this loss.
Could be just another loss or it could be the beginning of something different.
We are clueless at the moment.

I have fond memories of a game against the Bulldogs, probably 2004 on a Friday night. We were rank outsiders but took it to them. Probably would have won if not for a blatant knock-on from the kick off being missed by the ref. Man, that game felt like a win…

I undestand the sentiments , but our best loss ever didn't get us two points

We can take many positives from the game sure , but I'm more concerned about winning

Happy has a point, a lot to take from the game but unless this leads to a shift in our outlook upon winning and structured game-play including our defence, then it's nothing to get excited about.
