Again, this is down to the crap NRL system!
Even politis got it right, they don't fund clubs enough. They give clubs I think 34% of money they make, and the NFL give their clubs 66%.
Then the NRL wait till clubs almost go broke, then bail them out with restrictions!!
Politis is right it's a joke, apart from like 3 or 4 clubs most are close to being broke!
Who's fault really is it????
NRL needs to remember its the club people support not the NRL….
I also like that the NFL divide the gate takings amoungst all the clubs, much fairer.
You cannot compare what the % the NFL give clubs to what the NRL does, it is not that simple and someone like Politis knows that.
NRL funds all forms of the game from junior leagues right through to international football. The only responsibility that the NFL has is the running of their elite competition, they are not responsible for the grassroots levels of their game. Look at College football in the USA as an example, that is a completely self sufficient level of the game. Junior leagues are played at the school level.
If the NFL was to provide funding to all the various leagues around the country like the NRL do, do you really believe that they would be providing 66% of their income to the teams that participate in the elite competition.
Look I here what your saying but the last tv rites sold for 1 billion dollars, 5 years before that I think it was 500-600 million.
Yet how much did the grant money go up, not by double….????
Mate, all the clubs are in massive financial trouble and the NRL just wait for them to fall in a heap before helping. A JOKE...
Maybe when they sell the rites to the next tv deal they will give us another million dollars to manage our clubs. Seriously...
Meanwhile super league clubs that defected were given 10 million a year extra for ten years. But loyal clubs that stayed with the ARL got squat.
That why clubs like the dogs are in such a good financial situation.
The previous tv rights deal which started in 2007 was for $500 million and yes the NRL signed a billion dollar deal which started in 2013\. The NRL club grant in 2012 was 3.85 million and raised to 7.1 million in 2013 so it was raised by a bit less than double. The 2013 grant was 184.5% of the 2012 grant.
I actually agree that the NRL grant should be higher than what it is, I think around 40% of NRL income would be about right. That would raise the NRL grant to $8.3 million for each club.
