Wests Tigers’ stunning improvement sees club make first profit in 10-years

The Wests Tigers jumped off the bottom of the ladder in 2025, but their dramatic improvement has been eclipsed by their performance off the field, making a profit for the first time in 10-years.

The Wests Tigers’ dramatic improvement on the field has been eclipsed by a stunning turnaround off it as the club reports a profit for the first time in more than a decade on the back of surging revenues and soaring crowds.

Sport Confidential can reveal that the Tigers increased their overall revenues this season by $3 million and had a million-dollar jump in sponsorship under chief executive Shane Richardson.

The club’s playing kit also increased by 40 per cent and they reported a significant rise in corporate hospitality as they finally enjoyed some success after years of disappointment.
Throw in an increase in membership and a 45 per cent lift in crowds and the Tigers have started to turn the corner off the field.

The Wests Tigers have improved dramatically on and off the field under CEO Shane Richardson.

Richardson confirmed the club had returned a profit in 2025 after losing $5.5 million in the previous two seasons – their profit margin was even greater when they factored in the club’s share of the spoils from the federal government in the wake of Papua New Guinea’s addition to the competition.

Every club in the game is due to receive $1.75 million from the NRL this year, the first of five payments totalling $4 million over the next four years. The Tigers made huge strides on the field as well as they won nine games and kept the finals flame flickering for much of the year. They eventually finished in 13th spot, which represented a dramatic lift in their fortunes after three successive wooden spoons. “The club is obviously on the way up on and off the field,” Richardson said. “We’re really looking forward to what we can do next year.”

Good. If we can support ourselves financially then we have more hand in the relationship with the NRL. They don’t care if we come last every year, but if we are financially stable then we are not Oliver.
There is gunna come a time when they will be looking to Kul a Sydney team or two, and they are gunna be looking at the clubs that always have their hand out asking for more. Richo is the man so far, he knows the corporate $ are worth double, your average fan will always be there. You gotta look after them too, and that’s where playing FINALS footy comes in bcoz that’s all the fans want. We have been missing out on a month of revenue and fun for 15 years, that’s 2 footy seasons behind other clubs.
Now for Finals Football Richo, if we’re winning everything will come together.

Don’t really care tbh. Doesn’t affect my life. You know what would? Playing finals.
Financial health will play a part in getting us into the finals, our expenditure on pathways, support staff and equipment for the team...will be more robust with the additional $$. I'm sure the stronger clubs pump significant money into family days and non-football related support services to players and their families, you always hear the storm players bragging about it. All this sits outside of the cap and does make a difference to providing a professional environment and also ensuring you can recruit and retain more easily.

It is certainly a step in the right direction, hopefully eventually it will become a permanent situation because the less reliant we are on any leagues club funding the stronger we will be.

Not sure
on that 45% increase in crowds...sounds like a.lot

2025 home avg was 18131

Funnily enough think even Pascoe was able to produce a profit early in his tenure, trouble is that went on to be a clown show, but nobody was laughing.

Can Richo's smarts take us a step further to the elusive finals, we all F hope so.

Well Pascoe said we were profitable. He also said we had record numbers of members but in reality we had one of the lowest numbers.

The Panthers and Dogs football clubs “lose” money every year .. they get extra money from the pokies palace though to pay all the extra things they put into the football side eg coaching and pathways …
