Our forwards

Gosh this is not what i expected, Sironen, Galloway, Woods, Taupau, Sue….all beasts. Woodsy already 20 hitups after 20 mins, Galloway pulling off massive hits along with Sue wow

Our forwards weren't even the problem last year. I said it last year but Brooks still hasn't had a game as good as his debut. Last year was average from him. Moses had one good game at fullback and that was it. Hanging our hats on them is a big risk.

Old slow Galloway is the back bone of the team.
Soon as he came off it went frail.
But I only saw the first Half.

I just wish he'd have more minutes in him though , was on fire the 1st 10 minutes .

But Woods is unbelievable.

So was Lodge when he came on.

They got dominated in the first half

Nope! Our forwards made meters with every carry in the first half. Not a backward step taken. Sharks forwards offloaded more and created more second phase play, mostly because they were being stopped dead in defence. Galloway, Woods, Sirro and Marty T all looked strong. I don't think it was in our game plan tonight to offload too much.

I agree in relation to Moses anyway. I personally don't understand the amount of hype on him, based on what we've seen in first grade so far. He may have potential but he hasn't performed anywhere near the level of Brooks and Tedesco in their first dozen first grade games. I think Moses should be thanking the media for his starting spot come round one. Drinkwater is playing some very good football and probably deserves to be in the 17 at least, if not 6.

Ye of little faith! :sign:

I was at the game tonight and make no mistake, we were flat for the first 40 minutes. I suspect it was a combination of last week's game in the heat and the fact it was a trial. The starting pack was physically big though and I liked it.

I can't find room for Halatau although I suspect he'll be there somewhere. Fact is he's small and I think Santi offers far more at 13 than Dene does. Lodge and Ava were solid off the bench too.

I thought the game really came to life when Lodge, Ava and Santi came on. The intensity seemed to lift. Lodge was a man on a mission tonight, it's almost scary how good he is going to be.

The forwards only ever got into gear when Lodge and Taupau worked in tandem.

Flat and very trial like any other time.

Didn't see to see the game…
Surprised to hear Galloway went well...
Lodge is the man eh and Santi > Halatau
I like the sound of it

It surprises me how others see a game …I thought Galloway struggled to make an impact ,,lodge made more impact on his first hit up ..and sironen just dosent cut the mustard ,,he won't do the hard hit ups ..plays like he is at second receiver ...Moses did his best bt was struggling with a leg injury ,,maybe a cork ...we need two big name forwards and a top centre ...don't be fooled Cronulla have absolutely nothing in the halves and an average pack yet they still played the ball faster and offloaded at ease .

I would hardly say Sharks have an average pack. I don't think they are best in comp, as quite a few pre-season reviews have said but:

Fifita - AU rep
Ennis - former NSW rep
Prior
Tupou
Graham
Gallen - NSW rep
Arona
Lewis - NSW rep (DNP)
Bukuya (DNP)
Heighno
Tagatese (DNP)

hardly a busted pack. What do we have? 2/3 of the NSW front row, then Siro, Jesse Sue, Halatau.

In fact I would say it is the forwards that keep Sharkies in most matches. They do lack class in the halves as you note, and their finishing capability 2-5 is pretty ordinary too.
