Our own ''scum banner'' episode

In light of the Burrows dig at Roosters fans last week, Who can remember in 2004, when Mark O'Neill was king hit by Danny Williams….the following week or a few weeks later melb played at home at their old Olympic Park ground, and there were some banners on the fence making light of the incident.

There was at least one, possibly two or more....one I think had an image of Williams wearing a crown with the words, 'King Danny - youre a hit'' or ''youre a knockout''...something like that.

Anyone recall exactly what they said?

Ink totally agree with your post, it's poor taste, but what do you expect from the storm. The Tigers in 05 changed the game by making it flashier and faster, the storm on the other hand changed it making it slower and messier the chicken wing, cannonball, crusher, wrestling. It's a club with a rotten win at all cost's culture, which is good to a certain extent, tbh i wasn't too suprised to see the banner though. It is just a reflection of the club. No respect for anyone, hence the skirt drama and let's not forget that tiny little salary cap drama as well.

Steady on….every club has its poor element.

If I remember correctly, a few years back someone named the standard "next round" thread "Round X: Wests Tigers v Scum" instead of South Sydney....

Williams sign not a hit
By James Hooper
July 27, 2004
>
MELBOURNE chief executive Frank Stanton has vowed to remove a sign encouraging the actions of suspended forward Danny Williams if it appears at Olympic Park again.
>
The sign featured a caricature of Williams with the words "Smack 'em out Danny" written across it.
>
There was also a caption coming from the mouth of Williams which read: "Go ahead make my day", a line made famous by Clint Eastwood in his role as Dirty Harry.
>
Stanton said he had not seen the sign at the ground but would ensure it was taken down if it re-appeared throughout the remainder of the season.
>
"We didn't know anything about it and we didn't see it but we have been informed about it," Stanton said.
>
"If it appears next week we will get security to take a look at it.
>
"If it appears again we will ask the people who put it up to refrain from doing it. It's not necessary."
>
The Williams case, currently before the NRL judiciary, looks likely to remain adjourned until tomorrow week.
>
In another blow for the Storm, prop Alex Chan has been charged with a grade one reckless high tackle.
>
The Storm prop will miss four weeks if he enters an early guilty plea or six weeks if he fronts the judiciary and is proven guilty.
