Overrated Benji - Nothing has changed

The Parramatta game at Cambo last year kinda sums up Marshall's predicament in 2012 for me. In that game it was like he was trying to get somebody else to take hold of our attack and lead it, while he played more of a linking game for the first 50mins, and we were getting our backsides handed to us. Nobody in those critical positions was giving the team any direction.

You could almost see Marshall reached the point where just went "screw this" and took the game apart. We piled on 40 points in 30mins.

There's no way he was going to be able to do it every week tho due to the lack of cohesion in the teams structure thanks to Sheensie and his shuffle-fest.

He has lost at least a yard of pace and his step at the line isn't what it was, so he is going to have to adapt his game and become a more mature player. If he's given the structure this year and he doesn't play the role the team needs then we'll probably be in a better position to have this debate.

Settle down everybody…. the last few seasons under Sheens has been tough on everybody including the players. Lets wait and see what a new coach brings to the table and hopefully some stability across the park. Benji was butchered by Sheens with the madness of positional changes on a weekly basis and players attitude of Benji will get us there..lets not forget if Benji wasn't playing for us last season maybe the wooden spoon could of been a reality.I'm waitng for the day the Tigers play as a team and not individuals which obviously was Sheens wishes and to that point Benji should look a lot better IMO.I havn't given up on Benji as many here already have!

More posts in one thread in one day than all summer = shock jock tactics….have a dig at, and upset everyone in your OP ....and watch the boards light up.

there's an article in today's terrorgraph about Marshall's plans for taking on the line a lot more this year, but I can't add the link cause I'm a computer muppet.

He doesnt just have one bad game. I think ratio is 1 great game and 2 below average games at the moment at best.

I think he is great when he is on fire and love watching it. But with Benji you dont know what you are going to get nowa days,,, Mircale Benji, Good Benji, Average Benji, Below average Benji, woeful Benji.

If you to compare him to a good consistant number 6 then why dont you compare him to Darren Lockyer.

I'll compare them when he's back consistently playing at 6 again, which he wasn't last year. When he was, he was the Golden Boot winner in 2010, and their 5/8 of the year in 2011.

Some might question whether they always get these awards right, but there's no way you win a Golden Boot playing one good game in 3.

Totally agree with Black and Gold, Marshall needs to lose 15kgs and risk injury rather than be big and slow, speed was his x factor.
Dont understand how paid trainers can't see this????

My worry is, maybe that pace is just gone no matter what weight he plays at, that's why they're bulking him up.

You have got to be living under a rock, Prince has been part of the Queensland squad for as many years as Thurston!

Living under a rock?

Can you tell me how many times they have played together in the last 5 years?? Enlighten me.

At least twice from memory also Prince has been on standby for Cronk (niggling injury threatened pulling out of game) from memory and trained up until game day.

They would be well versed with each others game and it was no surprise Prince played 7 the other night.

Living under a rock was a bit harsh.

Benji has done more for this club and played more good games for it than anyone we have in the current squad with maybe the exception of Farah…people seem to forget that.

Heaven help Potter when we lose 3 games in a row, the "Chicken Littles" on here that think the sky is caving in at the drop of a hat will be wanting his liver on a shishkebab stick :unamused:

Run wild and free Benji-boy :sign:

I struggle to understand the criticisms placed on Marshall. Last season he played out of position, with 9 different halves pairings, the majority of which were not genuine halves options. He played behind a forward pack that failed to dominate at all. Despite all that he still managed to lead the try assist stats in not only our club but the entire competition. Under a new coach, with a real halfback and playing his natural position, Benji still has a lot to offer and will show that this season.

You took the words right out of my mouth. How can people argue that Benji had a poor season in 2012 when he made more try assists than anyone else in the NRL?

I have some concerns and frustrations with Marshall. People who defend him make some really good points. The nature of the 5/8 positions relies on someone decent inside you. The fact that Sheens has stuffed him around completely. However bottom line is we have made 2 of the last 7 finals series and Benji has been our highest paid and highest profile player during that period. Even that might be a little unfair as he spent a hugh chunk of 2006 to 2008 on the sidelines.

I just don't know if he really has that killer in him. A Bloke like Farah just acts like and plays like a real winner and leader that hates losing. When we have been lead by Benji over the years we have been awful and his leadership at the Kiwi's im not sure has been great. Anyway, maybe we should be less critical and except that he is an x factor player that will be forever hot and cold. However he was built up as the best player in the world at one stage, and he is a mile from that at present.

didnt get us in the 8\. period.

Not with a paper thin defence such as the Tigers displayed last year.

Our offence should of got us through. We have Benji. Besides we were/ are not known for our defence. This is untapped potential. Can Potter do it.

Im sure the point has been made.. but too lazy to check .. so just in case.. 37 try assists in 2012 - more than any other.. not bad for a bad season.. looking forward to a good one.

100% correct..

We all know Benji can win us a game with 10 minute exhibition,
As for the All Star performance,it is an exhibition match prior to the season starting with all the Indigenous playing for all each other.

I would not read to much into the form of any of the players,

Cant wait for the season to start, lets enjoy the preseason and save the stress for when the season starts :brick:

By the sound of things lets just sack Benji and then mabe you will all be happy. And then you will see how we will struggle to score trys.

We are relying on benji to be the only one that can set up try's. We are in more trouble than I thought.

It's all good. I'm sure all of us on here are as passionate about a successfull season for the Tigers. I'm done bagging Marshall. He is a great player and I'm hoping his form comes good and more often

Just read the NRL story on him going back to 6 and as intended it has pumped me up for round 1.
