Pascoe Held to Account

Anyone is free to apply for Pascoe's or any other job if they think they can do better and can present a solid case to replace the incumbents. Frankly, playing these blame games achieve nothing.

Can we blame him for the way Benji’s departure has been completely screwed up? If what the guy says is true an he read it in the paper this club is a joke and Pascoe has to be the next one out. How can he not try to control the narrative of this situation ( which was always going to be tough) and make sure the club didn’t take a hammering in the press. The guy is a complete liability to the club.

No because it's a non-issue and nobody will care about it in 4 weeks.

The fans knew the end was coming for Benji, how is it remotely possible he nor his manager could tell this was coming?

A non issue? Wow cop that Benji.

No one will care in 4 weeks? You mean when Benji plays his last game for the tigers or when the media circus of where Benji will play kicks into overgear? The media is going to have fun with this.

Fans knew? You have to understand most fans don’t hang around this place. They didn’t know.Either way, he leaves/stays/retires, the club should’ve controlled this to minimize the fallout.

Pascoe failed again.

Yes a non-issue. I don't care if Benji was told first or second or third that he's done, he's done. He's not our girlfriend.

There is every possibility that a player or manager leaked the info and Benji is simply claiming he wasn't told. It's possible the newspapers made an educated guess. Why would the club intentionally leak the Benji decision to the media? It can't have been malpractice or poor execution - you either tell the media or you don't, something like that doesn't just slip out.

"Hi how are you today Justin?" "Good thanks we are not renewing Benji... oops should not have said that out loud". So someone has released the news for some intent.

We only have to look back 2 weeks, there's Chris Lawrence getting his tap on the shoulder and he decides to retire. Nice little press conference, everyone is happy, media can only eat the cake we served them. Good on Chris Lawrence.

How is the Benji Marshall situation different? Well Benji doesn't want to retire. That's the single difference. If he was happy to retire then he could have had the same unrolling as Lawrence, nice big presser, off into sunset etc.

So if I had to guess I'd guess the manager released the info in some attempt to control the narrative and put everyone on notice that Benji wants another deal. Force the Tigers to make a public statement, make Benji look like the innocent party, save some credibility for Benji's 2021 deal. Otherwise, the Tigers make the statement with or without Benji's consent and he really looks like a spent force now.

In regards to nobody caring in 4 weeks, I mean the manner in which it unfolded. Everyone will care Benji is playing his last game. Nobody will care if he was told fast enough or not.

And yes everyone knew this was on the cards. Everyone knew the club was weighing up resigning Benji or not. Same as everyone knows Cam Smith is weighing up his options. It's been in the papers for months, speculation on who might retire in 2020. My Dad wasn't surprised and he doesn't read anything on the internet whatsoever.

Now Benji could have helped himself with better performances over the past 8 weeks, but unfortunately that hasn't happened. It's his own form that's led to the decision being made, and Tigers should not be fingered for that lack of form. If he was going well enough we'd keep him on.

Just when i thought I was out!

You are speculating to the point that you are making up conversions? Just to make sure that Pascoe is painted as the good guy, Benji and Player manager are bad guy. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle but you are crazy if you think the club handled this 100% right. What else have they done 100% right?

All we know is what Benji has come out and said and what the club has released. You dont know what happened and neither do I.

All we do know is something that was always going to be a marketing / PR bomb has blown up and at some point someone has to ask why the club mismanages things so bad.

How should the club have handled it? Benji is not needed at the club. Benji wants to keep playing at the club. Benji, like it or not, is a high profile media personality. It was only ever going to end one way... boom !!!!!

Occam's razor, right?

Why would Pascoe intentionally or accidentally inform the media that Benji is being moved on, before informing Benji. Assuming we believe Benji didn't have any idea until he read the paper, why would Tigers do such a thing? Even assuming complete incompetence on behalf of Pascoe and the entire operation, including Madge, how do incompetents accidentally inform the media that their life member won't be offered a new contract?

The simple answer is they don't. So either Tigers wanted the information to be released early for some reason, or someone is leaking the information to try and get an angle on the club. And then fans like you jump on the club and administrators for making the decision everyone agrees with, but not making the decision "delicately" enough. Please. Exactly the response a leaker and the media want.

Non-issue. Still love and respect Benji.

The club has been a leaky sieve for years. Media seems to get hold of everything going on, unlike other clubs. Loose lips sink ships and Tigers are sinking. Someone needs to be held to account for all the media leaks, players (Nofa) clearly not happy. Starts at the top. Are confidentiality clauses part of every Tigers employees contracts? I have to sign one in my job.

It hurts the club so much having constant media leaks. Does nothing but hurt us and make players want to stay far away from us

Simply not true.

Club has been watertight since they spread multiple versions of stories a few years ago to find the mole and removed them.

The club will find who leaked the story and they will go without any fuss.

He barely gives anything away.... there’s a huge difference between saying the club is slightly interested in signing a player and releasing private honesty sessions between the players and the coach with the intention to hurt the club.

You’re right, it’s much more likely that Benji/evil manager , on hearing he won’t have a contact next year, leaked to the media....to achieve...huh. Um...make it easier to get a gig next season? Logical!

I guess the other option would be at some point the club had given Benji the impression he’d have a contract next season, changed their mind (rightly) and instead of tackling the issue hoped it would go away. Benji asks madge, who asks pascoe who says nah.

Which one is more likely? Given the history this organization has in mishandling situations?

Just so I’m clear, and I don’t upset the usual gang of sycophants that will get upset if you question the club. Benji.had.to.go. The handling of him going has been west’s 101.

I don’t understand how he was even considered for another season. If he was, fine. I don’t understand how there wasn’t a clear pipeline of information to Benji that the club had changed its mind. How is he surprised in September?

Also, just so you think it’s about Benji’s feelings, I don’t care. I just didn’t want the club to put it self in a position we are in now where wiggles are even having cracks. Benji was a special case and needed to be handled specially.

It reeks of poor management and that’s what’s most disappointing. They don’t seem to learn from mistakes on the field or off.

I’m done, go wests.

The club has barely given anything away for 18 months. I find it highly unlikely upon reflection and no emotion to believe the club leaked this.

I feel this.
Anyone could have put 2 & 2 together and come up with the assumptions of the past couple days. Talk about being blown out of proportion, geez...

Even if a few players did complain about the selections and tactics to Madge, I'd see that as a good thing communication wise.

These reflective sessions happen at every club every season. Good way to vent and release any frustrations, but then of course everyone needs to move on. Media are attempting to make the moving on part difficult because they gain more clicks if it lingers.

Just gotta think, who gains the most from these controversies? Defs not the clubs or players...

Pascoe has overseen some shocking over priced contracts which has kept us in a bad salary cap state.

He's over seen the purchases of Reynolds, MBye, Packer, Dohehi and Joey Leulia for ridiculous prices.

Dohehi and Leulia have not lived up to the money they have been paid and it's cost us this year.

Reynolds is a 500k player at best, MBye 450k, Packer the same. Dohehi was a bench player at Souths not a marquee player he's worth maybe 300-400k.

When I heard about our interest in Joey the red lights and alarms went off, my first thoughts, he's a d**khead, bad defender and a liability then we sign him on that amount of money he isn't a rep player.

Madge can and should take blame for Joey and Dohehi but Pascoe has not had to answer for the recruitment decision he has been a part of as the CEO.

Maybe it's time a new CEO is looked at ?

Does anyone else find it strange that the Chairman is taking the lead now and the CEO is no where to be found except in a coffee shop

I don’t. Do you hear from the Roosters CEO Joe Kelly, who by the way was banned for nine months for salary cap breaches while at Manly? No you hear from Nick Politis their chairman.
