Pat Richards = Dud?

From what i have seen in the RWC so far, we have another DUD buy on our hands.
Besides his kicking, which is 1st class, Pat Richards has been quite abysmal, has let in quite a number of tries and his old age isn't helping.
He has poor lateral movement, similar to Chris Lawrence of this year, we really dont need another one of those in defence, he is rather slow for a winger and i would hate to see us lose 1 of either Nofoaluma or Koroibete because Richards will be given preference.
I hope Potter picks his teams next year based off of performances and not names as I really don't see Pat Richards being effective for us at all next year, and may even become a liability in the mould as Braith Anasta or the recent Chris Lawrence.

Opinions?
 
To be honest, I havent watched him play lately so I'm not going to attack him or defend him but I will pose this question to you, pacman, were you purposely looking at the negatives to his game or are you seeing something the entire wests tigers coaching staff has missed?
 
To me he's looked pretty ordinary in a bad team. I can't sack him on that but I can see why people are concerned about it.
Potters job is on the line next year so I'm pretty comfortable that he will have to pick the top 17 available rather than play favourites as the old coach did.

Will be interesting to see how he goes. Seems a bit premature to be calling him a possible dud though.
 
Have a look at the blokes playing inside him for Ireland, they are hardly top shelf. He will get more opportunities to display his talents playing in our backline you would think.

People who are expecting Pat to be as good as he was in '05 are kidding themselves but he won the Man Of Steel award in the last few years in the Super League so he mustn't be playing too badly when he is in a competitive team. He will be solid without being a world beater for us next season and his wealth of experience will be great for our young backs to learn off of.

And his dropouts will be much better than Benji's short dropouts that 9 times out of 10 gave the opposition the ball back 15 metres out from our goalline.
 
He is there to turn 4 into 6 and kick drop outs.

Anything else is a bonus
 
His running style really hasnt changed at all…..he lopes along rather than sprints, high knee action, very upright

His kick offs this morning werent bad, each was an actual challenge for the ball that they never won,....though I thought after the 7th try they mighta tried something different....it does however concede territory badly
 
the other centre for ireland was atrocious. absolutely abysmal.

richard's centre was mediocre. i dont want to judge him to harshly too soon because his dropouts could be an amazing asset but it's not looking too great defensively, and attack is mediocre at best too.
 
I would have no problems signing him if we were lacking in outside backs but we aren't. Lawrence, Simona, Nofo & Koro to me are all real good options.

I assume we will also have some more talent coming through. I just don't see where Richards fits in.

Still lets see how he goes. If he is ordinary and Korobiete is killing it in reserves Richards will definitely be a dud buy.

from bonstonker. havent seen him in the world cup, but i think this would be a better indication. im really looking forward to him playing for the tiges again!
 
koribete has looked a dud in this world cup.
nrl is a different ball game, im not reading too much into it.

He has obviously been signed as a kicker , whatever tries we do manage to score we need to be turning them into 6

The next goalkicker on the list is Anasta if you want him playing 80 minutes every week

But he has slowed down big time laterally (never really was that quick though ) and that is a major concern especially seeing we have put up with the next slowest winger in the comp (Utai ) for the last few years
 
I think everyone has had an experience, where if you play in a poor team, it can effect your performance.

And vice versa, if you play with high quality players, it can improve your performance.

Don't read too much into yet. Ireland are terrible.

He was killing it in the esl all year.
