numbers are useless, no one knows how much salary cap we got left, how much we are paying for his current contract, how much we are paying other centres/wingers, who else we could've bought for that price etc…. numbers as i always say are made up from media and other fans.
what we do know is that he MOST probably would've wanted to finish his career back in aus, for a team that he loves, for the mates he won a premiership under a coach highly regarded in the super league. we woulda been his one of the top choices, he wouldn't have been one of ours tbh. i do think whatever we paid him, must have been a bargain price.

Since we can't exactly give young people 10 years experience in the next 12 months we've had to buy it. The reason why youngsters can burst onto the scene like A Reynolds and DCE is because they can rock up at 20 years old in a competent team and slot in nicely to an experienced team. Direct contrast to throwing 10 people with 100 games between em into 1st grade.

That said I take rumoured contract numbers with a grain of salt.

Im just not sure just how much he loves the club, as much as some here make out - yeh thered be fond memories etc...but 7 - 8 years is a long time.
he did leave after we won a comp to satisfy his own desire, to play in a WC for Ireland.....that tells me career comes first for him - as it would for most pro players....he's winding his up with us.

even career wise.. he's accomplished a lot. man of steel, premierships (super league and nrl) and played for ireland.
for everyone, there is always a desire to finish where you started.

i've watched 5 of his games this year,and it is the same steady richards.
rarely makes a mistake with the ball.always finishes the movement.
2 70 yard dropouts and a 65 yarder.
goalkicking is consistent.
he is also a proper fullback replacement for injuries.
while he is great getting a ball down over the tryline in the corner,he doesn't make alot of linebreaks or tackle breaks.
like all wingers,i wish he was better defensively.
will be a good signing for us,that i would prefer stayed on the wing.
nofo looks more like a centre to me and with his tackle breaking ability i would like him setting up our wingers.not sure if he has had much experience defending in the centres though.

I agree with Goose. I think anything over 180K for a winger in his 30's is paying overs.

BTW Id be very surprised if Richards is to be coming back for anything anywhere near $200-250k
My point wasnt that we paid over for Richards, but anyone who thinks $200-$250kis a bargain is severly over rating player payments.
