Pat Richards on Foxsports today.

well yeah, i said in the original post i made that i don't actually know the figure. I'm going off reports because that's all i can.

To give you reference, i'm sure Lawrence would be on more than 200k for sure.

Of course he would cos he signed his contract pre-injury. Thats a ridiculous comparison.

numbers are useless, no one knows how much salary cap we got left, how much we are paying for his current contract, how much we are paying other centres/wingers, who else we could've bought for that price etc…. numbers as i always say are made up from media and other fans.

what we do know is that he MOST probably would've wanted to finish his career back in aus, for a team that he loves, for the mates he won a premiership under a coach highly regarded in the super league. we woulda been his one of the top choices, he wouldn't have been one of ours tbh. i do think whatever we paid him, must have been a bargain price.

"he wouldn't have been one of ours tbh"??

So why did we buy him???

depth

and experience.

I mean, can't people here see that the inexperienced team we have right now is STRUGGLING? 2nd last on the ladder assuming the warriors lose this week is nothing great and a large cause of that is that we don't have the experience and development in our players to compete against top sides right now. The return of Braith Anasta added a lot of structure to our team as there were two people shouting orders and making sure we all did the right thing instead of just Farah. Also, teddy seems to have acclimatised somewhat to barking orders from fullback.

Since we can't exactly give young people 10 years experience in the next 12 months we've had to buy it. The reason why youngsters can burst onto the scene like A Reynolds and DCE is because they can rock up at 20 years old in a competent team and slot in nicely to an experienced team. Direct contrast to throwing 10 people with 100 games between em into 1st grade.

He'll be more than a depth signing i think you'll find.

That said I take rumoured contract numbers with a grain of salt.

He wouldve been on good coin at Wigan….why are they letting him go and why is he playing here for much much less?

Im just not sure just how much he loves the club, as much as some here make out - yeh thered be fond memories etc...but 7 - 8 years is a long time.
he did leave after we won a comp to satisfy his own desire, to play in a WC for Ireland.....that tells me career comes first for him - as it would for most pro players....he's winding his up with us.

even career wise.. he's accomplished a lot. man of steel, premierships (super league and nrl) and played for ireland.

for everyone, there is always a desire to finish where you started.

He started at Parra

i've watched 5 of his games this year, and it is the same steady richards.
rarely makes a mistake with the ball.always finishes the movement.
2 70 yard dropouts and a 65 yarder.
goalkicking is consistent.
he is also a proper fullback replacement for injuries.

while he is great getting a ball down over the tryline in the corner,he doesn't make alot of linebreaks or tackle breaks.

like all wingers,i wish he was better defensively.

will be a good signing for us,that i would prefer stayed on the wing.
nofo looks more like a centre to me and with his tackle breaking ability i would like him setting up our wingers.not sure if he has had much experience defending in the centres though.

hoping next year will see teddy fullback with koro and pat on the wing and nofo centre and the other spot open to competition.even better would be a trimmed down lawrence back in form.

been saying that he is a good purchase for a while, **cheap** and tonnes of experience which we really need next year. Finally I feel like others here are seeing eye to eye with me.

Similar to Lote, but I hope if he does turn out to be injury prone we don't keep resigning him…

How much is he costing?

i obviously dont know but i've heard figures of 200-250k which is a bargain if he can stay fit, in my opinion given his ability and experience/.

$200-$250 is not a bargain for any player.

With the increase in cap the average salary is $232k

The latest estimates on median salary is $160k (this is an estimate, but the official estimate) significantly lower than the average due to a few top heavy contracts tying up the large portions of the cap.

Players on $300k a year or more are generally stars and rep or near rep standard players.

before the cap rise the median salary was $120 something K, and outside the top few players in a squad and the rookies, the salaries are more tightly grouped and lower than public perception.

well i rate pat richards, so 200k is a good price for him. ESPECIALLY since the tigers are likely to have to pay over now that we're last.

fair enough, didnt know that. but still i do that think that in the NRL, tigers would've been his first choice

How do you rate him compared to K Foran or DCE, cause they are both in the range that was earlier described as a bargain… (admittedly top end)

BTW Id be very surprised if Richards is to be coming back for anything anywhere near $200-250k

My point wasnt that we paid over for Richards, but anyone who thinks $200-$250kis a bargain is severly over rating player payments.
