Pathways. What pathways?

We are sold the concept of pathways, and then presumably all things follow where we have systems and processes which ensure we keep the best of the best, that then feeds up to the higher grades, and we reflect this in a competitive team etc etc.

But is there any real accountability?
Where is the proof that the system is working?
What grassroots measures actually encourage players to become part of the club fabric?
How do we fob off the player managers who tempt our best to maybe go elsewhere?
How is the desire to be a club legend instilled in these developing players?

And then there is the matter of the players who do not make it.
Sure, things don't always work out.
But once a Wests Tiger, always a Wests Tiger, irrespective of where the player travels - that should be a given.

The club has recently spent a lot of money appointing people to improve our pathways at the club, Brett Kimmorley, Mathew Betsey, David Fauonuku and Tim Sheens have all been put in roles to improve that area. Ron Palmer and Robbie Farah has been given responsibilities in that area.

Betsey is highly respected across sport in establishing development pathways

Trouble is our pathways have been a garden path

Which is why we have made a number of appointments in that area?

We lead the NRL in the appointment of football staff but are a long last in recruitment and retention

Melbourne Storm have a larger staff than the Wests Tigers.

Fantastic that we are planning for the future, but I'm impatient. We need some type of immediate success, even if it's just a finals spot nxt yr.

I don't see immediate success coming.

There is always another day, another year, remember that this is, while important to many of us, just a game, and it isn’t the end of the world!

Speaking of pathways. Did we end up shoring up a relationship with St Greg’s College?

How would you know?
How would anyone know?
Communication of positives (I would have thought) is a good thing.

Definately not the Storm's motto

We picked the wrong moment in time to reinvigorate our focus on pathways at the moment with COVID eliminating so much football from the junior grades over the past 18 months and in turn hindering player development.
It means it will likely take even longer to see the fruit from the investment than originally planned but if we want to be able to compete at a high and sustained level it is the best avenue by which to achieve this ambition.
The key is not just developing players and breeding success into them through the junior grades but also then retaining the right ones.
Might wanna start with Ogden WT.

Agree with all of this.
