Pet Hates in the Sporting world

I was reminded of this listening to the BSB this morning, when Bass called in on friday and again today bagging some of the contributors cause they either didn't play the game, or didn't play it well enough. Mind you he was bagging Brad Haddin and Roger Rasheed, if they are not informed enough to comment who is?
This always annoys me, the old "you've never even played the game" doesn't reduce someone's knowledge of the game, you get it on fan forums and talk back radio alike.
In my experience some of the best thinkers on the game have either not played or not played the game at a high level, and many guys I talk footy with have not played but clearly understand it well, while others who have played alot are admittedly a bit clueless.
Anyway just a bug bear of mine.

Bass is an absolute pain in the backside!! All he does is whinge and complain - when I hear he is on the talkback I am ready to hang up!

They often throw the same mud at Andrew Voss. Like him or hate him, he does have a wide knowledge of the game.

I would prefer that the BSB kept the Narc and blacklisted Bass!!

My pet hate is people referring to South Sydney as "the pride of the league"..SINCE WHEN?
Another - "if Souths are going well league is going well"…SINCE WHEN?
:rant

League is going better than ever - Souths keep missing the finals, and getting hit with injuries.

It really should be -

Wests Tigers are going well = NRL going well.

The Silvertails don't have a good ground for a couple of reasons, in politics the State Member is an Independant and Federally it's a safe seat(think I've got that the right way round) and secondally they don't have the negotiating skills required to seek the funding ,because they're that arrogant they can't handle that they're not getting their own way.

I hate the old "you've never played the game" line as well. It is up there with "don't you know who I am" used by the tossers of the sporting world for an ego boost.

I also hate players thanking god for a win (as though god had a vested interest in the game).

I can't stand the whole thanking God thing. Particularly in music at awards like the Grammy's when you get all the RnB artists saying 'i want to thank my lord and saviour Jesus Christ' :blah :blah :blah sorry just can't hide the fact i'm a non-believer sometimes lol

As well as the 'you've never played the game' line there is another line that is completely idiotic and childish, the old 'your just jealous' line. I've experienced this line many times from a Jarryd Hayne hate page i'm a member of on Facebook, and every couple days some halfwit comes on there telling everyone they are just jealous. So just because you dislike someone who is famous that makes you jealous? :crazy

Those officiating matches reliance on technology. Now I don't hate technology in sport, but I hate the culture it's bred amongst officials to not make the call when they know they're right.

How often to you see cricket umpires go to the third umpire for a run out decision when you can see in fluid motion at home on your telly he was three feet past the popping crease, or referees going to the video ref when they've grounded it right in front of them.

50/50 on that one Goose… There are elements of the game that people who haven't played the game simply don't "understand". It doesn't really matter at what level you achieved, but playing the game 'can' give you a difference of opinion over someone who hasn't. Either way, it shouldn't be used to make a point.

But then you have people like Happy... Played for Western Suburbs Panthers up here, and they wouldn't have a clue about the game even after playing it for years!

Andre Agassi in his book and some interviews talks about one of his opponents thanking God after he won on more than one occaision (think it was Chang, but cant really remember) and Agassi being peeved to think that his opponent believed that God would be on his side rather than on Agassi's, why would god be wanting me to lose, very good point

Watto, altho you were joking, I have a mate who was a super footballer, who openly says he has no idea, he doesn't have a clue, we all give him heaps, how could he be so good and so clueless

Goose and Watto Thanks for the big vote of confidence ( :crazy ) but I'm in real big trouble Goose I was no where near a super footballer (despite what I will tell anyone while I'm pissed) and Watto is right I talk a lot of crap on here

Looks like I better dig up my therapist number again …...........

Back on topic though faking injuries also really pisses my off especially those soccer skirts who act like they were run over by a road train after being tackled in the penalty box

A therapist won't help Happy. Save your bucks. The moment you wore that Panthers Patch on your chest you were doomed…

I too can't stand it when players take a dive. I had this conversation last year with a few ex players, and they all agreed 'diving' should be rubbed out of the game. Norm Proven nearly had tears talking about it... While some see it as competition, they need to remember regardless of what level you are playing, they are disrespecting the champions from there club who bleed and busted a gut before them.

Clichéd interviews…."I just worry about my own game.... We'll put in at training and see how we go...."

If they're going to continue using those lines they might as well do a Darius Boyd.
