Pettybourne Gets Call Up

Mate the way things are going I might get to represent soon

They must have QRL people doing the eligibility guidelines. I've been to the states quite a few times so I'm sure my selection is getting close. Maybe if I had have got some games in for Umina Reserves I'd be booking my ticket…

I really believe should spend more time in really developing rugby league at local levels in these countries rather then carrying on with charades like this. Otherwise the only real representation match ups will continue for many more years to be only NSW V Qld.

How else can rugby league have a world cup unless all these players from the NRL with foreign grandparents get called up.

Realistically the only countries that could have a competitive team with native born players are AUS, NZ, ENG, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji. A 6 team world cup isn't much fun, and even then the islanders would probably still get pumped by the big three.

International league is still at least 10 years off being competitive. If NZ wasn't able to pilfer the top Tongans and Samoans then they may not be able to compete with the Aussies as much. But for the islander team to develop they need access to all their native born players.

In reality they probably need two international eligibility policies, as controversial as that may be. To play for Australia you must be born in Australia, NZ you must be born in NZ, same for ENG. Be more flexible for the smaller countries to enable them to develop.

I agree with most of that but its getting a bit silly. An ancestoral connection with an overseas territory of another country is pretty weak. I'd have no probs with big Ed lining up for American Samoa or even Samoa but America?

There needs to be a balance on these things though - entirely heritage teams being pumped 50-0 is only marginly better than locals being thumped 100-0\. It's particularly poor when the locals play all the qualifiers and get shafted when the big games come around.
