Pettybourne

The game that convinced me was the U/20's Origin. I would have thought for a kid with FG experience and finals experience he would have gone back to that level and ripped the opposition a new one, but he looked like he'd have been flat out squashing a grape. No thanks

I don't want any part of Groat

Harsh considering his age and the fact he was asked to perform as a starting prop way before his time.

Nothing to do with him being thrown in the deep end, i've never been impressed by anything i've seen from him, and to top it off he cost us big time in the Warriors semi last yr. I don't think he'll amount to anything special as a first grader. Just cos he's young doesn't automatically mean he'll develop into anything special

I agree GNR4LIFE , I think Groat would be better suited working at KFC ,IMO .

No, but being young means he deserves a little slack I reckon.

He isn't an Aaron Woods, but thats not the say he should be thrown on the scrap heap because he didn't impress as a 20 year old prop in the NRL at a time when most other young forwards are still running around with kids their own age.

I'm not going to compare him to Woods cos Woods is a freak, but usually with a young player you will see something in his game that looks promising. I've seen nothing from Groat. If he wasn't a Tiger i'm sure the majority of people would agree he won't amount to anything, but because he's wearing a Tigers jersey then that seems to mean that him developing is just a given. Not to sound harsh but i really think he's going to be nothing

Woods > Fifita > Daylight > Groat

Woods Fifita Daylight Groat

I guess the club sees something in him though.

Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean its not there. I see potential and a chance to bring through a solid young lump of a prop. Others must see it too for him to have a contract.

This is the same recruitment team who didn't want Mason and instead went for Cashmere. Whatever they see in Groat doesn't install much confidence in me given their recent record for identifying talent

I think Pettybourne will be used as a prop and will go well

the one I'm wondering about is Bodene Thompson

He sort of plays a BMM role right? A big back rower running hard on the edges? But we already have one BMM… plus Blair, Anasta, Heighno, Fulton, etc etc.

will Thompson only get a run if there are injuries? Does Sheens think he'll make a good prop?

Id hope Thompson is the new bench utility … Is a centre 2ndrower... Perfect coverplayer ... And can also play a regular role.

I'm not seeing much in Groat either. I dont see how he was brought in to first grade so quickly? He was never dominating in the 20s the way guys like Woods, Fifita, Dwyer, Lui, BMM and Koroibete did. He looks very unfit all the time as well and to me doesn't appear to have the discipline or hunger that our other young forwards do. 2012 has been a terrible year for him though. Poor form to start off, then injured all second half of the year. Hope he has a massive off season to get fit and strong so we can see him come back next year and put in some good performances.

sheens saw something in him, we didn't. you can't blame him for that, the blame lies in the fact that an unproven prop was on our bench and another in the starting line up… still we had no back up props.

Begovich should have been brought on before Groat, but I'm willing to give Groat a bit more time before I pass judgement on him. You don't see too many props brought on before they hit 20, he has a lot to learn and a long way to go.

If he can be kept in the squad for low money it is a good option to hold onto Groat.

Props can be a timing thing. He needs to get into reggies and relearn his fearless running style.

Watching how long Hoppas shot on Galloway sat with him it will take time for Matt to get his mojo back

R U Kidding me Groat is 20 years old, and i believe he was killing it last year in the 20's with begovich. What games have u guys been watching????? I rated Begovich as well but he didnt want to play footy anymore, not our fault, his!!!
Give the guy a break, plenty of people last year and this including people on here said they didnt see much in Woods, including peter tunks, and look at him now!!!!
So how about u stop the Groat bashing, and give him a bit of time!!! I believe this all stems to the dirty teo shot that has broken his confidence, he should have got six weeks and still 2 this day the low act shoulder charging from peoples
blind shot is considered tough! Not with me, a shot for the mentally challenged and overall cowards! Like the pritchards, teos, SBW and sandows (need I say more).

Never been the same since he got smashed senseless by that grub Teo.

He is a great player and one for the future. Some people on this forum would not know a
footballer if they fell over one.

Pettybourne went alright at prop. I'd like to see him used there as we have alot of 2nd rowers.
There's also Vella who I think was very much in Sheens plans for first grade this year. He's a backrower too isn't he? Any chance he could play prop for those that have seen a bit of him?

x2
He's weak.

See? Exhibit A.

Groat has potential.

Based on what? cos he's a tiger?

Well he did get seleceted in Aus Schools, NSW 18's and 20's…..Id say that qualifies potential.

I believe he was asked to do too much too early.

Pre the T'eo hit, i thought his first stints were reasonable quality, but his second stint in games he was not up to, he was playing more minutes than he was ready for, I think he is pretty good, and hope that he recovers from the confidence issues.

Getting back to Pettybourne, I think he will play a bit of front row and second row, not guranteed a spot IMO.

Earlier in thread people were talking about options on the way through, We have 4 in the NYC that will become excellent first graders over the next few years, Lovett, Vela, Santi and Fotuaki. I think we will see some of them next year at various stages.
