sweet.. thank you for that. unfortunately it won't play in my country. stink. i'll have to wait til it goes on youtube.

thanks anyway.

I see it differently and i'm not saying i completely agree with Gus but i think he was just trying to paint a picture by saying that they didn't just go shopping and by all these players and then hide the amount they were paying them all. They turned them into the rep players they are that now command big money but unfortunately the cap penalises clubs for being successful.
I think there should be some sort or consession for clubs that nurture players otherwise why bother spending time and money on juniors when you could just use your cap and let other clubs develop players and snap them up when they're ready for first grade, this would also stop our top senior players going to England and Rugby which is becoming a big problem for the game because it forces more kids into first grade that arn't ready yet who succumb to injury in which clubs have to futher spend time and money on to get back on the field and then when they do finally get on the park and go well the club loses them because they can't afford to keep them when their price goes up.
Look at Benji, Lui and Moltzen just for an example all of them were arguably put in first grade before they were physically ready it's no co incidence they all got injured. I'm all for an even spread of talent but if your club is better at building a great team than other clubs why shouldn't they be allowed to keep that team together and be rewarded for it.

And the fact that they can't collect anymore points imo just ruins the competition for every club but the thing i can't get my head around is they are STILL ALLOWED TO FIELD THE VERY TEAM THEY GOT PENALISED FOR how on earth can that happen, it is unfair to every team that plays them.
If i was a player i would rather play them with there players shed and the team under the cap than play against an illegal team which could quite possibly cost my team a spot in the semis wouldn't you ?

Goulds beahviour towards David Gallop was a disgrace.

He showed him no repsect at all. Gould was given his final say than interrupted Gallops final say.

Gus is a goose. He named all the Storms juniors and said they are being punished for wanting to keep them. Yet they have signed Finch, Newton, Hinchcliffe, Quinn, MacDougall, Norrie, Lowrie and there are other as well. They are players who made their name at other clubs who were brought to the club to improve it.

While I agree that its tough on the Storm who do develop players very well. So do Canberra, Eels and the Dragons. They are just 3 clubs who develop youngsters very well only to see them go to other teams. We can't make one exception. The salary cap is there so to keep an even comp which is what we all want.

This is not an argument about the merits of the salary cap. the rules are there and they broke them. just about every club in the league can start a list of players that they would love to have kept but have let go because of the cap.
Melbourne refused to let players go and deliberately cooked the books to keep them.

We let players go after 2005, we've let players go since due to cap restrictions.

I have no sympathy for the Storm. Their performance tonight showed exactly why they should not earn points this year. They have a team of superstars that simply should not be playing together.

Ive never really had much time for gallop, but Gould virtually blamed him solely for this whole sorry mess…Gallop deserves an apology imo...Gus way outta line.

I generally agree with Gould on most things, but he was a twit this morning and to top it off didn't really make his point well. Gallop came of looking much better and made much more sense.

I didnt see the Sunday Footy Show this morning but gee, nothing can match the argument between Gould and Gallop on Triple M a couple of years ago.

I can understand part of Gould's point of view in this saga in that why wasn't this picked up earlier? Why did it take 5 years and a whistleblower to pick this scandal up?
The NRL need to implement a tougher strategy to pick up on these cheats before it gets out of hand like it did. But at the same, it is virtually impossible to stop the salary cap being rorted. A club or their owner could easily just hand over $10 000 cash, buy a car for a player or build a house like in the Scott Prince saga without the NRL or Ian Schubert even knowing. Its virtually impossible to stop.

Even if the NRL take control of all the clubs contracts and have exact records of what each and every player is earning, its still not going to stop brown paper bag payments or clubs buying players houses or cars, because the NRL simply wont know about it.

We need a salary cap to keep the competition as even as possible, but the NRL need to be more proactive in catching these cheats. Otherwise guys like Rusty at South's will just throw their money at the top players while clubs that are not privately owned, will struggle to match the funds. And that will lead to a downward spiral where clubs will start getting belted in games, attendances and sponsorships will drop off, and eventually the club will die and only the privately owned clubs will be alive.

I agree, you have summed it up very well.
the rules were there. they consistently broke them. they have been punished.
don't be suprised if this goes further, and someone will more than likely, have a holiday at one of her majesty's motels for a while. of course all expenses paid, and free clothing.

But see that's the beauty of what the Storm was doing. Pay overs to get the promising kids into the system and then rort the cap to keep them. Also if you know you can keep the majority of your team without concerning yourself with the cap it makes it a lot easier to take a risk on young blokes - there's no need to pay overs to get replacements when your topliners move on. We lost Ryan Hoffman because they were able to do this and who knows if they were rorting the 2nd tier and NYC caps as well.
