Champion Australian boxer Daniel Geale may be a middleweight but he had plenty of heavyweight support in his corner today.

Wests Tigers forwards Keith Galloway, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Matt Groat and Shaun Spence jumped at the opportunity on their day off from training to spend a few hours watching Geale work out at The Grange Old School Boxing Club in Smeaton Grange.

Geale is in his final stages of preparation ahead of the much anticipated grudge match against Anthony Mundine for the IBF Middleweight Title at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, January 30.

With an impressive professional record of 28 wins (15 by k/o), Geale’s only defeat was to Mundine in a controversial spilt decision for the IBO World Middleweight Title in Brisbane in 2009\. Geale has held the IBF Middleweight belt since May, 2010.

A proud and passionate Wests Tigers Member, Geale began following Wests Tigers after moving to the Macarthur region from Tasmania. He has conducted several boxing sessions with the Wests Tigers over the past few years and attends as many games as possible with wife Sheena and their children.

Galloway said Geale has always had the respect of the Wests Tigers players.

“Daniel has been ‘one of the boys’ now for a few years. He is always welcome inside our dressing room,’’ Galloway said.

“He is a quality bloke who really loves Wests Tigers. I think he gets just as much excitement out of seeing us as much as we do of seeing him. We will always be in his corner.”

Spence was in awe of Geale’s technique and focus at training. He sparred 12 rounds with two different opponents under the eye of trainer Graham Shaw.

“Daniel is such a humble, quiet guy. It was a real pleasure to meet him,’’ Spence said.

“Just watching him spar and to see how hard he works was an incredible experience. It is not every day you get the opportunity to watch a world class boxer like Daniel Geale spar. Like all the boys, we wish him all the very best against Mundine. We will certainly be cheering him on.”

He's a backrower so he has a few in front of him at this stage, although I think he'd handle FG if given the chance.

Cheers for the reply Willow. Hopefully get a chance to see him in FG sometime. Matt Groat looks in better shape than he did last year aswell, hopefully he can push on this year.

i hope Geale shuts mundine up for good , cant listen to his crap , people like Geale are what boxing needs , someone who goes about his job and doesnt have goof balls following him like pupets , if mundine kept his mouth shut and boxed he would have had great support , aussie fans in all sport always support our sports people , some clubs and pubs dont even show his fights
