Players that declined after leaving Wests Tigers

Sauaso Sue?

Esan Marsters and Dean Collis are the two that most come to mind. Arguably Luciano Leilua isn’t the player he was previously.

Aaron Woods was a regular origin player at WT. It’s ever diminishing returns for him these days.

Kyle Lovett?

A lot of the players mentioned above started their decline at WT at continued that decline after they left.

A couple more

Jacob Miller

Looked like he could have been anything. Disappeared to the ESL and never seen again.

Early days but Kitione Kautoga seems to have gone backwards since leaving.

Esan Masters
Blake Ayshford
Luke Garner
Thomas Mikaele
Ben Murdoch-Masila

There’s been plenty but probably none more so than Woods.
Were missing
Tim Moltzen
Ave S (although he did not totally go crap).
Daine Laurie (snr).

I think there are actually more that have either declined or moreso stayed the same since leaving than have improved. It’s just that the ones who have improved (Tedesco, Moses, JAC & Paps) have really stood out by comparison. I think it gives us a false sense that everyone goes onto better things once they leave here. Lots of clubs have had those players they wished they’d never let go, Thurston, Ponga & Walsh come to mind, but mostly players just slot into another team trying to do their best. Of course if a team is performing well, it makes a huge difference.

I mean how far back do I need to go to make the point? You'd be lucky to get legitimately a dozen players that clearly improved AFTER leaving Tigers. E.g. Tedesco, he didn't get better, he was just more successful. Scott Prince did great after he left Tigers, but he also did great at Tigers.
I appreciated this just for the walk down mediocre memory lane. Names like Tom Humble, Geoff Daniela and Eddy Pettybourne remind me of simpler times when I didn't know the names Justin Pascoe and Lee Hagipantalis.

it is a worry that Benji was lauding Marsters as a world beater.

Benji Marshall is backing Esan Marsters to become ''one of the best – if not the best – centres in he game''.

"He just needs to keep his head down – it's a big head – keep working hard and doing what he's doing,'' Marshall told The Sun-Herald.

It’s not unusual for a player to talk up a teammate beyond their actual ability. And Marsters was good for a time for us.

I'm not convinced on him - yep went to another level at Melbourne but now that hes back in an ordinary side he sure ain't the star he was.
I think JAC has a winger problem.

He won't get faster. If he Bulks up, he will be even slower. Still a damn awesome winger and IMHO a player the bulldogs are very lucky to have. He has back row smarts and hey if we could sign him back he would teach Tupou and Bula a thing or two. (won't happen). Still respect the guy.

Just as long as he doesn’t want to bring him back 🤣

Prince, Gibbs, Ellis, Lui
Man I totally agree with Earl's comments....

Prince and Ellis were absolutely top shelf class players. We were really lucky to get Prince in 2005 and I don't think he hit that same performance level post 2005. Ellis is such a class act, Imagine though if we signed James Graham to partner with Ellis in our front line....

Gibbs was a supercoach wonder, on field headache. did EVERYTHING poorly.

Lui is the real mystery. He absolutely killed it for our team as a halfback. Sure personal troubles, sure move to NQL... I would have expected him to be the next Thurston.

Looks like the comprehensive list.
I think Curtis Sironen went on to better things at Manly. Lodge was better for a while at Broncos as was Blair.
