Potter v Kearney

I posed this question a few weeks back, who has/had it tougher? both walked into a rabble both on and off the field, both coaching a side who they had no input in assembling and both have hit rock bottom. I think theres a strong case to say Potter has had it worse

* Feuding boards/feuding supporters
* 1 half of the JV almost bankrupt
* Guys who are grossly over-paid and grossly under-performing (to put it nicely)
* A playing roster he had no control in putting together
* 3 home grounds
* The overall boys club culture of the playing roster

You'd be hard pressed to make an argument that Kearney had it tougher imo

It's really irrelevant who had it worse. At the moment Potter has very little to work with and it's up to him to try and get the best out of what he has at his disposal.

What he needs is the backing of the board to do what he thinks needs to be done. I know the ESL isn't the same as the NRL, but he did well over there and if he is given an opportunity to build the squad he wants here I'm fairly sure we will fare better.

The thing that I find alarming is our lack of plays…..

It looks like Potter doesn't like trick plays and just wants us to bash it up the middle.

IMO we just don't have the troops to do that,especially with all the injuries.

If we are gonna just barge up the middle,we need to get bigger boys in like Groat and Ava.

Potter has it far worse, I just hope they give him control on player recruitment because he has a vision of his play style and at present half our squad ain't cut out for his style of play. If we are starting a rebuild we can't be sacking another coach and then start all over again. just hope our dysfunctional board gives him what he needs and backs him

I agree with this 100%.

Potter has completely removed our attack. We havent run a set play all season and have not even looked threatening for more than a few minutes. We have possibly the worst attack in the NRL for a few years.

Potter seems intent on one simole game plan….even though he doesnt have the troops to make it work. He then complains post game that we only play for brief periods. Well, hello, but that is because we are getting rolled. We cant sustain it as we are nowhere near big enough or fast enough or mobile enough to play that simple one up style play.

The game plans have been terrible. They are badically a throw back to Canterbury in the mid 80s, only without the five meter rule and without the dogs brutal pack of those days. That type of footy doesnt work any more. Yet Potter seems shocked post game when it fails each week.

I really have my doubts that he can coach to be honest. I hope I am wrong.

If our squad isn't cut out for his style of play why was he chosen as coach? Also any good coach should be able to adjust his coaching style to suit the players he is working with. We are now half way through the season and if you can pick what Potter is trying to coach you are better than most. I don't think his players even know. No excuses.

Maybe because there wasn't a lot else on offer. Don't mean that in a bad away about Potter but it is what it is. I agree with Hitup that Potter has had it worse than Kearney.

It seems to me that we have found out that only sheens could coach a team built around his sheenius ideas. Ironic isnt it?

The diffrence, last year we pulled off a moderate share of wins, nothing convincing though. So this year without sheens just pulling through an ineptly built football side, the players and his replacment are left grasping to 7 straight losses. The only thing a new coach could rely on is pure enthusiasm and energy, but that has already been dwindled by teams that actually have confidence in the players around them because they are built for the job. Think pettybourne coming into a new team and playing in a defensive line he sees blair, fulton, buchannan, ayshford, lawrence around him or next to him. He has to play out of his skin to be able dominate, last year he played for souths with burgess, tyrell, sutton, crocker, astotasi he looks at them and then he says I CAN be dominant, I can run HARD because these blokes are gonna back me up with hard hits and hard runs, straight after me. But in our side, you get shuffles to the line and players that just arent built for the job. Get some mongrel and get some dirrection, listen to your new coach because you either suck it up and work hard and listen to what he says or be 3 coaches in 3 years. We may as well let potter try and find some answers, it will take some changing of the guard though!!

Toss of the coin both as bad as each other. Potter thinks his some sort of supercoach and is going to change the Wests Tigers. Players don't respond to your style Potter….its not the 80's.

One thing with Sheens is he would change game plans at half time and could read what the opposition was doing.

Potter has ruined our attack to concentrate on Defence.....Newsflash Potter Not working

Have you stopped to think that if Potter cannot get the team to execute even the most basic of game plans for 80 minutes, then they probably arent up to running anything more advanced. He needs to find that stable platform to be able to work from, all the while fighting an absurd injury toll, overall average roster, and what seems to be a poor player culture.

precisely, it's like getting a U16 team to execute set plays when their biggest issue is making tackles. Who cares if you can or cant execute a brilliant play if youre getting run through by 30 every week while not sticking to a far more simple plan.

Sorry Irvine, our attack wasn't much chop to start with.
