Potter

I will judge Potter next year.. Its clear he has inherited a club and players with attitude issues - I'm sure he has realised this and will weed them out next year…I expect we will look; play and act like a totally different club in 2014...else Potter will not be renewed...simple as that...

Not sure if the cleanout will be possible over just one year.
We may have to let contracts run their course…we have no money.
That and the sheer size of the problem...it dwarfs the usual recruitment retention scenario each club has from season to season.
Each year though it should get easier.......... if we get it right from the start
Time will tell

Yep, good post Ink. Players like Benji, Lawrence, Ayshford - guys who were looking pretty sharp and effective in 2011 and locked up on longer term contracts are now playing like park footballers, and they're not on chump change, we can't just pay them out, which is also a problem in the Blair situation, and there's last season's pickups such as Anasta, Pettybourne and Thompson who have really not added anything to the club.

We can certainly offload a handful of players at the end of this season, guys who are coming off contract like Lote, Utai, Bell, Reddy etc, but the others will take time unless they want out early and we're not left with a bill to pickup.

Out off all the issues he has faced mentioned by posters in this thread i can't fault him.
I think the positive out of this injury riddled season his had the chance to see what the tier below has with a lot of them off contract. I can see huge improvements in woods and farah since his been our coach. The development of sue is a big highlight and under sheens I doubt we would have seen it. He has been hammered by the media for benching Benji but I didn't have an issue just look at the dragons and dumping soward. Yes we get angry at Blair petty and the crew but he really hasn't got much else to pick from. As we are at the start of a rebuild it will take 2-3 year period in this process. Look at Penrith 2nd year in the process and looking much better. Sorry for the long post.

One definite positive is his recruitment! Taupau was a great signing. We prob got him for a good price too.
Not sure about persisting with Meaney though? Unless we are having 2tier cap issues?

Potter due to injuries, poor form and a average roster has spent the year trying to teach the team how not to get beaten, rather than teach them how to win and although we have not won to many games I think he has done a pretty good job.

Next year will be his make or break year, and if he can get through the year with his job still intact he should be in for some glory years from 2015 and beyond, because by that time a lot of the kids should be established footballers and some big deadwood contract should have been moved on.

I like the way he works, no fuss,no ego and no blame game, love to see him suceed

What about them? Mistakes were made, sure. DA was a good coach, but the Parra board thought they had the next Bellamy and blew their wad.

Yeah, mistakes were made that really put Kearney on the back foot from the get go, but that seems to be a non factor, it was all his fault.

It would be nice to live in a black and white world with nothing in between, but reality beckons.

Kearney inherited a work in progress and left it a wreck. **Source: life long Parra fans**.

I don't how being a life long Parra somehow makes an opinion more relevant.

Well, I guess the best way to explain it would be that the people I talk to tend to follow every bit of news regarding their club, they read the articles, tweets, rumours, interviews and expert opinion. They watch, dissect and review pretty much every Eels game. Much like I suspect many of us in here do for Tigers.

Also I know the people quite well, they are able to form fairly well rounded arguments about the game in general and reasonable indepth and well articulated thoughts about their own club.

So when these life long Eels fans talk, I hold their opinion and views about their club moreso than casual fans or fans of other clubs.

Speak for yourself, there are plenty of people who follow the game in general closely. You don't have to be a life long Parra fan to'' formulate a well rounded arguments about the game in general and reasonable indepth and well articulated thoughts about another club''.

Just look at the mess he's walked into….look at the big picture overall and you'll see mitigating circumstances of why we are where we are right now

The Sheens debacle.
The injury situation
The poor recruitment of seasons past
The $2 shop strength training conditioning staff
The financial problems the above four create
Humpty under pressure and standing down
BLC redevopment drama
Wests Cambo pulling out of JV
The boys club culture thats permeated over several years

Potter's not GOD
Its going to take time.....I'm just not sure Potsy will be given the time required

At least Junior development seems to be thriving, one area Sheens excelled in, the pathways system

thats is all that needs to be said

Say it was turned around, and Parra fans were telling you what was wrong and whats happening with Tigers. Would you feel you are in a better position to argue the points because you follow the team more closely?

Give somebody a mess and then wreck it further (with injuries) it's still gonna look like a mess.

So far I like the way he seems to operate. No fuss or carry-on and best of all no excuses. I agree that Farah and Woods seem to have grown under his period here and I reckon that, from the effort demonstrated by some of the younger players, he is beginning to improve the team culture.

I think Marshall could be a bit of an albatross for him but even that may change with further team building. I think the Benji benching was a good move. I don't think Potter will pander to him and one way or another I think it has to come to a head soon.

I'm prepared to give him the time to get the team together in a stable situation and build structure and culture.
Go Tigers!

I have to watch games on the international streaming service on NRL.com, unless it is blocked to France. During the station breaks such as halftime and advertising etc after the game, we streamers get to see shots of the ground, private conversations between the commentators and sometimes inside the dressing sheds. After the win against penrith a week ago we were in the dressing sheds while the players were on the field celebrating and being cheered by the WT supporters in the crowd. During this time, Potter was in the sheds talking to someone I didn't recognize. Siro was the first into the sheds, he looked like he wasn't sure of what he was supposed to do. He did not speak to or make eye contact with Potter. In fact, as the other players came in, Potter did not make eye contact with or speak to any of the players. The only one who acknowledged Potter's presence was BENJI, who tapped Potter on the arm as he walked past.

There was no spirit at all, no congratulations, nothing.

I haven't watched the replay of the Broncos game, so I don't know whether there is vision in the sheds as with the penrith game.

What do any of you read into this? I've never played high level RL, so I don't know, is this normal?

I don't think there is any real 'normal' cobbs. A win is a win, but the reality is there still isn't much to cheer about is there?

Thai's an interesting observation.

I guess it depends on the context, and who it was Potter was talking to. It may just be that players recognised something important was afoot and not to interrupt. Otherwise I'd read it as not a good thing.

It doesn't matter at what level, the coach should acknowledge success.

Yeah mate, its a profession at that high level, you can't expect him to be doing backflips.

Same if we were to lose you don't want him ripping doors off etc.

He looks like he is a very critical coach, and when we win, there are still things to work on.

I wouldn't read to much into it, it's probably good to distinguish and keep distance between players and coach.

It makes the hard decisions easier.

Thanks people. As a player, Potter was a minimalist, no frills, solid. It doesn't surprise me that our attack has gone back to basics under him.

But it does surprise me that our defence has got worse under him.

Well, Royce hasn't helped. Also our missed tackles per game has reduced MASSIVELY but our metres conceded has risen dramatically and the NRL's defence has gotten a lot better too.

So basically, we might only be missing 20 a game instead of 35 last year but they are MUCH more likely to be 10 out from our line instead of 25 out.
