I know it's a talking point, but in my opinion this premiership window thing is the biggest load of garbage

Great clubs can have the windows open as long as they like with real culture, strong governance and a good reputation.

I think Souffs window shut hard two weeks ago

I think 2024 onwards. we have a plethora of good young kids and if we bring them through properly and get them to the 50 game threshold and ensure they continue to improve I think we can definitely win a title in the coming years. seems a mile away but the club, excluding the first grade side, is in a good place.

To put it bluntly, the Tigers won’t win the premiership until they realise that Luke Brooks isn’t the answer.

This is no knock on Brooks. He has the talent, but the 26-year-old just isn’t fulfilling what the Tigers need. After eight full seasons in the halves, it’s time for the club and Brooks to part ways. It’ll be a tough — and awkward — conversation. Brooks is a local junior and grew up as a big supporter of the club, but a fresh start would allow him to work on his craft in a new system. What the Tigers have been doing simply hasn’t worked.

The Tigers were seriously poor this year. They had great moments, like that thrilling round six game against the Rabbitohs, but for every good performance there were two bad performances.

The team earned the reputation of being consistently inconsistent and until they can shake that tag, a premiership will be well beyond their reach.

Fed up with being average, the Tigers have started to take action. Coach Michael Maguire is on his last chance and Tim Sheens — the last man to take the club to a premiership — is back in the fold.

Players like Daine Laurie, Adam Doueihi and Luciano Leilua provide the long-suffering fans a glimmer of hope, while 2022 recruits Jackson Hastings and Oliver Gildart both have points to prove.

A premiership is still at least four years away, but if the club can hang onto the gun players in their lower grades and make smart roster decisions, the Tigers can be back in the winner’s circle.

Premiership window: 2025-2030

Real question. If Wayne Bennett came to Concord and managed to bring with him his usual level of competence and signed everyone he wanted to play with Brooks. Do you think Brooks could win a comp? Or do you think even for Bennett to do his thing here he'd need to move Brooks on?

Just more of a thought experiment than anything... I actually don't know how I'd answer that lol.

Even Bennett couldn't win a comp with Brooks. He couldn't win one with Adam Reynolds who has way more footy smarts than Brooks has.
Brooks is a first-grader but he just doesn't have the necessary nouse and bold character that premiership-winning halfbacks have. Look at all of the premiership winning halfbacks of the last 30/40 years, there wouldn't be a meek character amongst them. Premiership winning halfbacks have mongrel and that inner drive to want to be the most dominant character in their team. That just isn't Brooks.

Bennett won a comp with Shane Perry at halfback.

EDIT : PJ beat me to it. Bennett also won a comp with Ben Hornby at 7.

Hornby was a much better footballer than Brooks ever will be

Starting to think our premiership window was 2010-2012.


They were good years and we had a good roster.
Sad to reflect.

Our jerseys were the best at that point too.

Who knows, my view is if there weren't major changes at the end of the season we were doomed to fail. I think Sheens sitting above Madge is a good thing and I think getting rid of Madge's hopeless yes men is also a good thing. Bringing in the right assistant coaches is crucial. I didn't have an issue with Hartigan but if you're handing Sheens the keys then it's up to him from here to decide who goes where. It sounds dramatic but my view is that whether we succeed or fail as club it will all be down to Sheens. He's in charge now. Part of that is exciting, part of it's terrifying.

I saw Sheens' signing as one to fill a gap, and complement the club. An important role, but not one that was the centre of focus. Unfortunately that looks exactly like what's happening, and the club appear to be structuring the whole football department around him. I was already 50/50 on Sheens, so this is a little concerning. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
