Proof Marshall isnt being taught correctly....

Proof Marshall isnt being taught correctly to kick goals. When a respected goal kicker says he isnt setting the ball up correctly to kick a certain type of attempt it shows that Marshall doesnt actually know the correct way. Joey said when Marshall was lining up the 50m goal that he didnt have it set up to gte the distance. Im not saying many would have kicked that goal, but it ended up way short and Joey was correct.

Only other explanation is that Marshall didnt want to kick it and was trying to leave the ball short to play field position.

I always thought different kickers adopted different methods of setting up the ball…I thought it was up to personal preference?

Mind you I do agree that Benji needs a few more lessons.

I thought he had the ball placed down with the point of the ball facing the posts, which is the correct way for a long range attempt.

Will have to watch it again and check, unless you have a very strong kicking boot you don’t get any where near the distance with the ball standing around the corner type kick, needs to be down, point facing the posts with a much straighter run up.

Everyone has their own kicking style and it doesn't mean it is right or wrong…

After playing 80mins a 50m goal would have been something pretty special...

… I agree... i dont think many people would have got it from 50m out... after a tough game...
anyway i think he was going for field position...not the extra 2 points...

Even if he was using the wrong style, it doesnt mean he wasnt taught correctly. I am sure that Jason Taylor is more than qualified to teach how to kick.

I used to play Rugby and did a fair bit of kicking and what Joey said does hold some strength, if the ball is placed upright you have an open shot at the sweet spot of the football and hence the ball can explode off of your foot if it is struck in the sweet spot, laying the ball down like pretty much every kicker does these days makes a kick more accurate but it also takes away the sweet spot of the ball and on average I would say personally there is atleast 10 metres difference in the kicking styles but the latter is far more accurate.

Field position for sure. Get it as close to the Raiders try line as possible and tackle. Force an a mistake perhaps and score a try?

Against Parra, he was lining his kicks up closer the the near hand upright when they scored Tuqiri's tries on the left hand side… with the natural curl of the right footer, he should be aiming it out towards the right hand side of the post... to allow for natural swing in the air.

skip to about 1:05…....you see andrew johns kick the ball from 50 meters standing the ball upright. Does anyody know if Benji even stands the ball upright off his kickoffs?

does benji even kick off? yesterday it was moltzen doing the kicks and i recall farah also doing them…not sure why they change this..

Kicking the ball 50m isnt that hard too do, im not saying i can do it, but we have seen it many times kicked out on the full from the kick off. Bah i dunno what they were thinking infact i was abusing the tv… in the end tho i was loving life as i had them on 13+

They had an even better plan - kick short, let the Raiders regather and chip down the left, Tigers regather, attack back down the right, Marshall step to find Moltzen, inside pass to Ryan for the try. All planned. Even knew the shoulder charge was coming from Vidot.

I used to be an upright round-the-corner kicker growing up before the kicking tees became the norm and I kick it just as far either way to be honest. I still occasionally practice just for a bit of fun and exercise and I find using the kicking tee more accurate. I landed a goal from 45 metres out (wind assisted) having it placed the same way Benji did, and never found I could get more distance from having the ball placed in a more upright position.

I've noticed Benji likes to be creative and sets the ball further away from the posts on angle kicks to get more direct - he also likes to put the ball down away from the posts even though he has a chance to get closer - i think he secretly likes the challenge and 'wow' factor if he kicks successfully.

I've always found that kicking the ball almost lying down gets you more distance - as opposed to what Joey said of upright (I find it backspins too much if done this way, hence, less distance?!) hmm

Fair enough certainly from my experience I got alot more distance and height out having the ball upright as opposed to laying the ball down, I could get 50 pretty easily upright laying the ball down i would have to hit it perfect from 40.
