We could be in for a sneaky good season up front if (big if) they avoid injuries. I don't like Galloway and Woods as a combination alone as they lack mongrel and aggression (compared to other elite props), they don't scare anyone. Galloway is capable of it however injuries have hurt himThey are both good players in their own right. However they were exposed in origin somewhat where you need to play on the edge somewhat.
Adding Tapau and Gavet, we have potentially a couple of wreaking ball types that make impact on the collisions. That can offer something different up front then simply pretty stats. Keith and Woods get some leg drive going however this often leads to slow play the balls. Gavet and Tapau are capable of putting a few on their backsides and giving us a bit of aggression and intimidation that this side has lacked for years..
Then you have Ava, Blair and Buchanan who all did ok jobs last season. Plus Nathan Brown who we know is raw but has alot of potential in terms of his aggression and attitude. Its a pretty under rated cast in my opinion and could be one of the sneaky strengths that slips under the opposition guards. Teams will cetainly try and roll us up front, as they know for years and years WT's have had a soft underbelly and struggle to win the collisions. They struggle to win the ruck and so on.
Potter now has a genuine 4 prop rotation plus a few back ups. He has put this straight to use this week with his team selection which was great to see. This might mean the first serious style change in our play in a decade. With no Marshall running his cross field, ball hogging game. Maybe we can develop a power game, a north/south game based on power with Farah and Brooks asking questions at the line. A more direct style of play, a more simplictic style which might assist good stright line runners like Fulton and Lawrence.
I see this game as Potter's first in charge really. Last season was a train wreak that Wayne Bennett could not have altered in my opinion. Potter made some rookie mistakes and also showed a lot of fortitude in my opinion under very unfair scrutiny. However this season he deserves to be scrutinised, any coach that went through what he went through would have to be better for the experience.
I not have huge expectations at all this season. However were hopefully starting to see where this side is going. This is now Potter's team and I expect him to start a mould a game plan in his style. I expect players to be on the same page and the side starts asking questions of teams. Whilst expectations are low, if things click their is the potential for us to have a higher celling then some sides. It's a big if given the coach is under pressure, the side is young and the club as a whole have been in a huge rut for a couple of years. We still have a very ordinary backrow in my opinion and huge questions marks at five-eight. Whilst we went shopping on the cheap again, and this hasn't often payed off maybe these players can respond, as at least they are Potter's players.
