Prop Rotation/ Change of game plan/Potter's team

We could be in for a sneaky good season up front if (big if) they avoid injuries. I don't like Galloway and Woods as a combination alone as they lack mongrel and aggression (compared to other elite props), they don't scare anyone. Galloway is capable of it however injuries have hurt himThey are both good players in their own right. However they were exposed in origin somewhat where you need to play on the edge somewhat.

Adding Tapau and Gavet, we have potentially a couple of wreaking ball types that make impact on the collisions. That can offer something different up front then simply pretty stats. Keith and Woods get some leg drive going however this often leads to slow play the balls. Gavet and Tapau are capable of putting a few on their backsides and giving us a bit of aggression and intimidation that this side has lacked for years..

Then you have Ava, Blair and Buchanan who all did ok jobs last season. Plus Nathan Brown who we know is raw but has alot of potential in terms of his aggression and attitude. Its a pretty under rated cast in my opinion and could be one of the sneaky strengths that slips under the opposition guards. Teams will cetainly try and roll us up front, as they know for years and years WT's have had a soft underbelly and struggle to win the collisions. They struggle to win the ruck and so on.

Potter now has a genuine 4 prop rotation plus a few back ups. He has put this straight to use this week with his team selection which was great to see. This might mean the first serious style change in our play in a decade. With no Marshall running his cross field, ball hogging game. Maybe we can develop a power game, a north/south game based on power with Farah and Brooks asking questions at the line. A more direct style of play, a more simplictic style which might assist good stright line runners like Fulton and Lawrence.

I see this game as Potter's first in charge really. Last season was a train wreak that Wayne Bennett could not have altered in my opinion. Potter made some rookie mistakes and also showed a lot of fortitude in my opinion under very unfair scrutiny. However this season he deserves to be scrutinised, any coach that went through what he went through would have to be better for the experience.

I not have huge expectations at all this season. However were hopefully starting to see where this side is going. This is now Potter's team and I expect him to start a mould a game plan in his style. I expect players to be on the same page and the side starts asking questions of teams. Whilst expectations are low, if things click their is the potential for us to have a higher celling then some sides. It's a big if given the coach is under pressure, the side is young and the club as a whole have been in a huge rut for a couple of years. We still have a very ordinary backrow in my opinion and huge questions marks at five-eight. Whilst we went shopping on the cheap again, and this hasn't often payed off maybe these players can respond, as at least they are Potter's players.

I so want us to play TOUGH.

I wanna hear opposition players interviewed before our games say "Its going to be tough, but if we can get over their forwards….we'll go close to winning..."

I kno I bang on & on about it but you can have all the attacking weapons at your disposal but if they cant defend...they aint much use

Agreed with everything except for this. Whilst our squad wasn't a great, it wasn't as bad as some of our performances suggested.

Tonight's game Roosters v Souths highlighted how important it is to have a big strong set of forwards which can hit hard. Souths pack much too good. If our new forwards really put in it will be a huge improvement from last season.

Mate some of those hits tonight were ferocious….Souths defence won them that game, it was inspirational, they smashed the Chooks, picked em up and tossed em aside

In Sue, Gavet and Taupau we now have a few players with a bit of extra spice that can get the opposition looking out the corner of their eyes, and Blair hits as hard as any according to his peers.

In addition to a bit of defensive mongrel, they also bring some good leg speed to a previously pedestrian pack, that should also help tire opposition defences a little more and flow on to take a bit of sting out of their initial hit-ups.

Whilst we don't have the best pack, we have by far the best depth up front that we have ever had and young Brown to come. Looking forward to at least being competitive and not trampled over by the likes of Souths the past couple of years.

they sure did! i thought the chooks were poor against wigan. wigan was a horrible team (all their top 5 best players gone) and played even worse. That and jennings was the only reason the chooks were lauded.

and now i'm 100% for 2014 in the tipping comp

Wouldn't it be nice for teams to look at the draw and say "Oooooh Sh%t ,Tigers in two weeks " without a smile on their face

A look like this 😱pen_mouth: would be nice

I reckon Ava could be a real impact player. Made some great hits last year and did a great job at sprinting to the line, I reckon will see a lot from him this year

I think Ava and Sue feed off each other on the park, well at least thats what it seemed like to me. If they do its awesome… it only takes one good hit to fire up a defensive line, and having a second missile cut someone down soon after can really light a fire.

Im pumped for this bench to get out there and spark up, unusually excited about the prospect. If our starters can get out there and lay a platform of tight D, which by the looks of it seems to be the idea, the boys will gain confidence and should turn the screws when we inject a bit of fire off the pine.

The anticipation is killing me.

I was reading it till he said that Blair and Buchanan go alright…..Im sorry but Buchanan is the slowest man alive, and Blair is well...Blair.

Not just the hits…the running was ferocious too....the Burgi were smashing it up the middle at full throttle.

I saw Hargreaves get poleaxed trying to smash them and getting smashed himself.....when u take out the other teams hard man...half the battle is won.

We played the Sharks up the middle in the trial and it worked well. Consider we have Woods who goes straight and hard but has that neat footwork at the line and always seems to drive through the tackle and has an offload. Galloway when fit always offers good go forward, Blair has good footwork and while he can be lazy, when he's actually having a go, he always gets a quick play the ball. Ava, Taupau, Sue and Gavet are all straight hard runners, along with BMM. Patterson, Fulton and Sirro all offer a mixture of size, mobility and ball skills.

I know 99% don't rate us, but I think with the new structure in place, we're a chance of making the 8 if we stay fit and healthy.
