PROPS V S/ROWERS

WITH THE SIGNING OF TAUPAU,I THINK WE NOW HAVE A GREAT BASE FRONTROW, WITH BLAIR . GALLOWAY, WOODS.
WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THE LACK OF BACKROW TALENT, YES WE HAVE SUE, FULTON, BMM, BUT WE HAVE NO BRUTS. WE NEED TO BUY ONE OR 2 LARGE S/ROWERS.AND ALL THE KIDS COMING FROM U20S ARE GOOD TALET BUT NONE ARE BIG MONSTERS THAT WILL BEND THE LINE.

SORRY FOR THE CAPS FORGET TO TURN IT OFF.

I think we can mould some of our props into back rowers. Buchanan could be one, solid leg speed for a young guy. Also, BMM. We MUST get the best out of him before we simply have to let him go. He's clearly gonna be another Fifita, maybe not quite as good. But he has some solid unearthed talent.

Well Someone asked The Mole now that we let Eddy leave so we can sgn Frank Paul he said yes so mabe his our next signing for the second row postion.

im still waiting to see what the management and coach is planning to do with blair… does he get a kick up the bum for not being consistent, does he get asked to look somewhere else for options or do we keep seeing this?

where he plays- i.e. prop, s/r, lock or bench may affect our options long term.

I reckon Taupau/Gavat are in the mold of a versatile prop/backrower and will be a good addition next year. The explosive impact should have been coming from Pettybourne this year but he just died in the arse.

BMM also needs to step up to the plate on a consistent basis.

I agree with this, Buchanan has a good motor like Woods, but doesn't have as much impact in attack, this will improve with experience and a bit more strength which he'll pick up over the next couple of years, but I think he's a good option at 13 along with Sue, as they both defend well in the middle and aren't afraid to hit the ball up regularly.

I know Gavet can play prop, but we have Woods, Galloway, Seumanufagai and Taupau who are all 110kg and offer good go forward. For this reason I'd consider Gavet as a backrower given our backrow options have not been impressive this year and are not making nearly enough metres compared to what we used to get out of Ellis and Heighno each week. We've gone from getting a good 100 metres in attack to 50, which is terrible and it shows as we make the least metres in the comp, or close to it.

Blair is frustrating as hell. Rarely gets driven backwards, always gets a quick play the ball but always seems averse to getting stuck into things and making the 12-15 hitups each game he should be doing. I'd like to consider him a backup prop but it's hard to really find a spot for him at full strength because he just doesn't do enough IMO to warrant a starting spot if everyone is fit and firing.

It's just a matter of time before Sirro ends up in the backrow, it could happen as early as next year if he puts on another 3-4kg. Fulton gives his all each week but is going to be swamped by a few blokes who are over 100kg and dent the line. I think with the emergence of a few players this year, next year looks to be building up nicely.

How about big Curtis Sironen who will end up there very shortly.

I think next year is not unrealistic if puts on another 3-4kg of muscle, which I expect he will given his height plus he'll be able to hit the weights properly after recovering from his shoulder reco.

The club is stuck with Blair, he is being paid too much to have another club wanting to buy out his contract and if he is let go then the club will be paying for him to play against us by topping up his contract with another club. There is little choice but to persevere with the bloke in the hope that he improves and plays solidly and then when his contract is up there will be some money available for those keen to earn it.

This is what i'm quietly hoping will happen. Certainly has the frame . I was stunned when i realised his height and weight are not all that far off SBW. A good pre season may have him ready for the move.

Sirro will be the man to fill the void. Whilst I do not want o live in the past but imagine him and Dwyer in the 2nd row.Just a shame we will never see it.
