Push is on for Trent Barrett to coach Wests Tigers

Strangers things, but I think Mayer was pretty clear today on the couple if radio interviews I heard that Potter will be coach in 2014

He was clear that he wanted Potter for 2014…..but was also fairly clear that the decision on whether he stays or goes lay 100% with the board.

Which isn't that comforting given some of the numpties choices previously.

Yes fair enough LaT, I will give you that point. I am just hoping that as a recently employed CEO who seems to have both the players and the punters on board at the moment may have enough sway to convince the board to shaft potter at their (and the clubs) peril.

Barrett, lol

Can't believe he is being talked up as a future coach.

Are we aiming to win wooden spoons now?

Add to that Blocker as forwards coach ,whats he going to teach them

1/ How to pat refs on the head

2/ Dietary needs of the modern footballer

3/ How to front the judiciary

4/How to do a Lowes ad

Yeah he might help to instill some fire and passion , but we don't need him in a paid role to do that

The game has changed so much since Blocker was playing Wrestle ,dominant tackles etc he is out of his depth

rookie coach for a young team i dont mind the idea we tried it the other way around and it failed bad (even though it got us a premiership)
still folkes and brown should of been the first 2 coaches on our list

and yes potter should of dumped benji and put siro/anasta at 5/8 with brooks at half why play luiani for 1 game when we could of played fulton there :s

If what's being bandied about is true, I don't think it will be an issue. I don't think the Wests board members will sack another coach if they have to foot the bill.

The Balmain delegates have lost their mind.

I think he'd been working for a while at Manly in a similar role, so he's probably got some cred in the area.

In saying that though, I'm with you, I just don't think he is going to provide us with anything that different or better than what Royce had been.

Barrett is from Temora which is just north of Wagga Wagga.

Not much surf there?

I had a chat with him early this year, and all he spoke about was surfing and loving time on the beach… He said a few times it was his favourite time as a kid?!

He saw you coming.

Maybe he just went to Bateman's or Ulladulla a lot as a kid. Interestingly Toddy P is from Temora as well, it seems to be the flavour of the month for asst coaches. The town has a solid footy heritage (almost all go to the Raiders first), not bad for just a couple of thousand people.

Barrett is from Temora. I played Under 18's when he was [playing First Grade for the Cherrypickers in Group 9.

Egotistical and selfish back then. Not much changed over the years.

I cannot for the life of me see how he could be any good as a coach. Reminds me a lot of Ricky Stuart.

Someone must think something of him if he assistant to Laurie Daley for NSW

Matt Parish has been doing that for a few years now and I rate him less than Barrett.

The assistants to a team who has not won a series in how long? And we want them in our club? No thanks
