I'm no Qlder but Airlie beach is beautiful!

Danger Alert: 45 years ago I seen the biggest shark at Airlie not far from shore, it could still be lurking.

Unlikely..

Shark/Lifespan
20 – 30 years
In the wild

Meet a bloke not long after I first moved to Gladstone

He flew sea planes for many years and said of all the Ports he flew over the biggest and most sharks were in Gladstone Harbour

I won't argue either , about ten years ago out past Heron we threw a big morwong back (not great eating ) only to see a Tiger Shark pretty close to the same length of the boat grab the morwong and casually cruise past the boat

The boat was 18ft 😱pen_mouth:

He probably means crocodiles, the Chironex Fleckeri are dangerous too, all of Townsville would stay out of ocean in wet season when I lived there 1971\. Magnetic Island full of sharks as well.

I'd recommend any destination from Mackay to Cape York… Hayman Island or Aquila on Hamilton Island is the go. The islands from Townsville north are more suited for couples, so probably give it a miss.

Port Douglas or Palm Cove are the 2 mainland destinations I'd suggest, plus Cairns if you want a casino or stuff like that.

Basically, You can't go wrong in North Queensland in winter.

Anyone suggesting Gladstone is geeing you up. It's a working port city and as boring as Rockhampton & Hervey Bay. Nice to see, but after a day you will be bored.

I heard there's a half decent bar at Maroochydore, owner gives away free piss and everything

Owners pretty dodgy from what I've heard

He has no idea how to cook a steak , pour a beer or pick a decent footy side in Qld to follow

, he also gives free Accommodation to Wests Tigers supporters.

Yeah , he lets you lay on some dirty great oval at Cooparoo for free

Lovely bloke :unamused:

No free piss at my joint… Get your wallets out you tight arses. I even have a surcharge for NSW Supporters during SOO Series

Calling all Queenslanders,

Myself and wife and two sons, are thinking of a holiday anywhere in the area , from Coolongatta up to Cairns. Two sons, 19 & 17.

Looking at NSW school holidays in July as 17 yr old is in Yr 11.

Is the weather still decent up there in July, for outside activities, to keep sons motivated and involved, so they won't be bored, :smiling_imp: :unamused:  like jet ski-ing, para sailing, etc.( I know it can be pot luck)

Are there any places you recommend to stay in or visit,

any advice would appreciated

I do hope wests-tigers go beter this year, and don't have to rely on points for/against not to finish last

all the best

Sorry Tahger

Thought I'd ask where you ended up going and did you enjoy yourself ??

Maybe people could mention where they went on holidays and rate the place they went

Always looking for somewhere new to go to

Ended up stating at the Moroccan complex at surfers paradise, on the 9th floor.
Great views, our 2 bedroom apartment, was big, only two apartments on each floor from 6th floor upwards overlooked the Esplanade. had a good time. went to movie world, dream world, sea world.

Gladly go back to the moroccan again.
