I remember him as a tough player and a bloke who was respected.

Every now and then you really, really like a player from a team you hate.

Steve Folkes was that guy for me from the bulldogs in the 80's and ever since.

Very sad he was the PE teacher at my high school in the late 70s, well liked and respected.

Was that East Hills high? One of my mates was also taught by him. Very sad for the family, he was a true footballer probably did not get the recognition he deserved

Very sad and one of the greats of the Canterbury side. Tough as nails and always gave 100%.

I had lots of respect for him.

Should have been our coach after Sheens.

I'm trying to word this the best way I know , but although he would be sad to be leaving his family and friends behind, he would be happy to be rejoining his wife

I uncharacteristically checked out the death notices in today's SMH and there was Steven Folkes - poor guy died of a heart attack. The pics shown of him sees him looking pretty fit.??

Is this for real??? I don't know how I missed hearing it, but I guess I don't watch the news much these days. Didn't even see this thread until now. I'm in shock! Very sad news.
