Of course they're not but we're talking about the best available five eighth option and, even though some of Rankin's fullback and wing play last year were diabolical, I think he deserves a chance to play in his favored position, especially after strong performances in ISP. The choice is between JLJ and Rankin and Rankin is the best option.
I don't think there's a person here who would have him in the starting 17, but I dare say he'd be a decent half… if he had more speed or strength.

@ said:Rankin certainly doesn't seem to have many admirers. That said, he was pretty good last night playing in the halves. He's also a decent goal kicker which we need now that Moses has gone. Can't see any reason why Ivan wouldn't want to continue using him at five eighth at least until Tui Lolohea has joined us (assuming he does) .
