Ray Stead 1940s-50s

I was wondering if anyone on here remembers a Wests Magpies player named Ray Stead, I think he must have played in the 40s or 50s.

I am researching a book based on the life of a 75 year old Australian woman who lives upstairs from us in Paris. She thinks that her uncle Ray played for Wests. Can anyone verify this?

I can't find the Wests Archives online, anyone know where they've gone?

Just had a look at my Encylopaedia Of RL and no mention of this player playing first grade, perhaps he was a loyal clubman that only played lower grades, contact Wests Ashfield, they may have lower grade records.

Paris …here is a link to all players who have played for the Pies...

http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/teams/Western_Suburbs_Magpies/players.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tou can also navigate to all clubs past and present...It is fairly accurate ...interesting site..

Also Paris Cobbs, you can contact Wests Magpies Rugby League Football Club office at Campbelltown, ask for Andrew, who can then put you in direct touch with the Wests Magpies Archives volunteers - they have great resources going back in time - good luck in your search (and remember to tell us what happens….!)

Their website is http://s9.zetaboards.com/Wests_Magpies_Forum/index/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You might have to join their forum to ask your question.

Did you get the correct name/club?

I'm not sure. On the grounds that I assume she can remember her own uncle's name, I suppose it isn't Ray Stehr. It could be Western Suburbs Rugby Union, I suppose as I don't think she would know the difference.

What about Western Suburbs in Brisbane? They were the Panthers and played most of thier years out of Purtell Park at Toowong…

There is also a Ray Stead Memorial Trophy in Group 7...
