Any feedback on John grant -anyone? I'd be surprised if he plays any first grade this season. Eastwood rah rah boys are like schoolyard stuff streets behind-doubt he will cope in defense-good luck to the lad but the gaps he was used to in rugby compared to leauge will be tight as a fishes u know what!!! He will. Be in for a rude awakening

Can only go on the little bits I've seen so far, but he does look pretty dangerous with ball in hand and his one on one defense seems okay. Not surprisingly though, he's got a fair bit to learn about defensive positioning. Hopefully he's a fast learner cause I'd love to see him in firsties.

Defensively he hasnt made too many mistakes and has actually made some really good one on one tackles. Meaney has constantly been in his ear guiding him with the positional side of defence, so he has a long way to go there. Meaney was even telling him when to drop back for kicks. He has been quite strong in attack, scored some nice tries and had a few good runs. He has not receieved much quality ball however, which makes it a little hard to judge. Still a long way to go for him but the future looks quite promising.
 
Got caught out in defence a couple of times in the trial against Newtown, his defensive technique looked ok though. He's good with the ball in hand. He's got the potential to play FG, just depends how well and how quick he adapts to Rugby League this year.

But that's the issue Cochise He can't possibly play NRL until he can make those distinctions himself without having someone having to hand feed him

Lawrence or Ayshford and Tedesco should not have to baby sit him , they have enough to do themselves
 
decision making will come reasonably quickly.

Having someone tell him now, will help speed up the process, once it is at an acceptable level he will prob become next in line behind Lote and Beau
 
i think with lote probably leaving at the end of this year Grant will take his spot . He would have had a full year in State cup with maybe a few games in first grade. He has the potential but i beleive with a full year behind him you will see a very damaging player out wide.

Its interesting to note that he's been named on the left side for BRET having previously been on the right throughout the trials. Might be a sign of things to come in the future. I hope he gets a chance at some stage throughout the year.
 
I think if he performs well in defense and is safe under the high ball then he has done enough in attack to make me believe he has a first grade future. I think it won't take long for him to overtake Utai as our back up to Lote and Beau

He's arguably the fastest player in league, has a stride-length of about 700m, has good hands, and defensively not too shabby. Seems to have all the makings of a devastating winger or FB. Just needs to get his head around the game. He has so much going for him though, it would take a pretty big brainfart for him not to make first grade at some point. Plus, who really knows how Utai will go this season? On paper he did pretty well for us last year but his lack of speed at times is a major liability for us, and he screwed up a lot of key plays. That and the fact that he's like 31 now.

Unless we have any better wingers coming through the reserve grades, I think we'll see Grant replacing Utai as our back-up winger. If he does really well he might even overtake reddy or humble as our go-to utility. But that's a pipedream at this stage
 
I hope John grant gets a run in first grade he could be a super star in the making he is the fastest runner in the competition. 195cm tall and weighs 103kg he is a weapon

Yes, you can almost gurantee a thread or two like this, nothing like a good stereotype to rattle the cage. Do you know anyone playing grade at Eastwood? Have you been to TG Milner and watched any games? Have you been to any Tuesday/Thursday training sessions? Did you formulate these opinions based on experience, or is it just a 'we iz much tuffer dan u' rant? Probably more Polynesians playing RU than RL, u think they're softer? :bash

Just for your enlightenment, Rugby comprises a team of 15 players. It's generally accepted tha less time and space presents itself in attack as a result. The difference in Lote's 2009/10 metres are a good example of that.

On the flip side, SBW was an RL superstar, yet has not shone in RU, other than a few decent performances in the number 12\. Conrad Smith was and is streets ahead of him. Brought a few through the gate mind, but now coming back to RL because he can't crack a starting spot with the AB's

Was quite surprised when I read this,& also a little disappointed.His one on one defence was never an issue in Rugby,& dont expect it to be so in League.
Defence reads on the wing arent really that different between the two codes,& he's a smart enough fella to work it out,so hopefully he will do so with haste.If anything,Rugby union is a little more challenging with the variety of options deployed by opposition attacks against opposition wingers
Theres an enormous opportunity staring Grant in the face if he pulls it all together(Utai isnt a long term wing solution),so its up to him to earn his spot in firsts with some dazzling displays in BRET
I think he will

Clontarf, the biggest difference for wingers is in the defensive quarter…kicks into the in goal are so much more prevalent in league it changes a lot, he'll pick it up.
 
No way is Grant some kind of sure thing in League. He has proven nothing yet, running around in club rugby.

There is a reason we signed him to only a 12 month contract.

Full of potential though, let him show he deserves a spot first.
 
Couldn't have said it better LaT. There sure have been a lot of people with some outragous expectations when it comes to Grant
